BATTALION: Legacy is the revisited and final version of Battalion 1944, released for free to all on August 16th 2022. We have taken the best aspects of Battalion 1944 and honed in on these to create a fluid bug free experience, featuring a working server browser, an added faction, new weapons, classic Search & Destroy game mode with all weapons available, complete UI rework and visual overhaul. Battalion: Legacy is the culmination of work consolidated into one old school experience for all to enjoy.


With the newest version of Battalion comes an all new faction, new weapons and new ways to play classic game modes. Take up arms with the infamous Lee Enfield and finish off opponents with the powerful Webley Revolver.

For Season 7 we have re-evaluated how we distribute Warchests completely. Instead of receiving one Aces High every level, we've made the switch to reward the Battalion faithful every five levels with the new Winter Warchest. This will make your Seasonal venture feel all the more rewarding as a greater gift in your stocking every five levels is for us a step in the right direction for a more consistent flow.

With Season 7 we've also implemented a new breakdown of XP so that our players know exactly what they're being rewarded for and where their XP comes from. This will be presented as it was at the end of the game

This Season's skins focus on everything the holidays has to offer, from gifts and decorations to the occasional penguin. With the new distribution system in place these skins have never been easier to acquire with the option to purchase still freely available for those who wish to continue supporting the game. Winter Warchest

Special Event: 3v3

New season, new event. This time we're looking to bring our players closer together during the festive period, quite literally. With two bombsites, twelve coins and six rounds to fight for, this mode brings a shorter, more action packed experience to the frontline. Alongside the game mode itself we'll be seeing our four aim maps enter the fray. Aimmap, Kosak, and variations on Liberation and Coastal make for quick paced game mode for you to dip in and out of as you see fit. For the first week of 3v3 Wartide, XP shall remain the same as its competitive variant to help give you a little holiday boost into the new season.

As part of our continued roadmap we've added a Streaming and Hidden Name mode which will allow those that stream to do so without the trouble of finding themselves at the end of untoward names or chat. Enabling these will change the names of team mates and enemies alike and give them a name of a more family friendly nature.
As part of our progress to make Battalion more accessible for new players we've included a Video Training menu! The training menu will be consistently updated with new content from the more basic aspects of the game up to full breakdowns of Wartide, other game modes and complicated mechanics by some of the best and brightest from both in house and the community
!
Our first video comes from Mark 'pHANTASY' Pinney, one of Battalion's earlier developers that takes you through the basics of the game and dives into how to best utilise your settings.

We've made leaps and bounds so that you can leap and bound. A previously tricky issue where players felt 'stuck in the mud' after landing from heights or general movement will no longer be a problem for those of you that enjoy traversing our maps at speed.

Community - the bread and butter of any foundation set aside for great things to happen. With this in mind we want to bring some of those great things to the forefront and shine a light on roads less travelled. The Steam Workshop features fine selection of custom maps and original content for your Custom Server needs and its our duty to help find those diamonds in the rough!

Mittelbau by creator Abraxxas is the first to take centre court in our Community Highlight. Taking inspiration from other popular maps, Mittlebau houses a plethora of winding streets and scenery whilst keeping layout at the forefront in its earliest iteration. With over 500 hours in designing and testing alone, the intricate process of assessing what does and does not belong as the overall design evolves can be a tedious for many, but creator Abraxxas is still set on course to have a fully fleshed out map which transfers well to Battalion 1944's pace.

This is the first iteration of a new map for Batallion 1944 that is inspired by Counter Strikes de_inferno. With heavy and ongoing modifications to its layout I'm always looking for feedback on how best to take the map to the next level.

With approximately 500+ hours designing and testing so far. Level design is an iterative process that often entails spending countless hours working on particular assets, only for them to later be scrapped, as the overall design evolves.

I have always been passionate about game development, and particularly level design. Quake and Half-Life modding is what initially sparked this interest, and my desire manifest ideas into reality is stronger now than ever before. Upon discovering Battalion 1944, and quickly becoming addicted -- I realized that the dev kit was available, and immediately got to work on my own design. The map de_inferno, from Counter-Strike, has long been a personal favorite, dating back to pre-1.6 days. Although it has long been one of my favorites, there have always been various flaws throughout the map that often lead to the map feeling one-sided. With this in mind, I have made various changes and adaptations throughout the layout to provide a more balanced and faster playing level. The map has evolved into an entirely new experience that should be reminiscent of old-school games, but optimized for the speed and intensity of Battalion 1944.

None of the visual detailing is finished and some assets have no been built yet. This is because I want to ensure the layout plays well before spending time creating assets that might be replaced (if the layout changes).

Please leave feedback with what you like or do not like, as it relates to the layout of the map. I am well aware that various buildings are incomplete, and some are missing textures. Thank you in advance for any feedback provided!

Our Halloween game mode acted as the faux beginning to our MSU (Mid Season Update) as we looked to focus more on content and improving the ‘casual’ experience for new players and existing community. Since Infection’s launch last week, we have received a tremendous amount of feedback from those of you to have braved the undead plague. Over the last few days we’ve been adding new maps to keep the mode fresh moving forward (Having added Liberation, Vanguard, Coastal and today Derailed!) before its removal from our event queue tomorrow alongside the ending of our 50% OFF Halloween Sale. Many an undead scourge has met their unrelenting end that is the Baikal double barreled shotgun. Many a daring soldier has joined the tainted forces of the Infected having fallen first in combat. For those of you that missed out, do not worry. Your own personal Infection is ready to break out across the Community Server Browser as the mode will now be hostable for all those that wish to do so. With many maps still to try, we look forward to seeing how you utilise the environment to your advantage!

Accessibility is key and the new player experience can be a daunting foothold to undertake for a game with a competitive nature. Due to this we’re adding new training modes to make that crossover easier for those joining us for the first time. Learning nades or smokes can be a time consuming yet rewarding experience but we can’t expect you to learn on the job. We’ve now included an easily accessible ‘Grenade Training’ mode which will grant you a full selection of maps, more nades than mouse clicks and a helpful follow function that enables you to see just how good your throwing arm is.

Alongside our Grenade Training is a new ‘VS Bots’ mode. Learning maps, positions, weapons and everything in between at your own pace is now a one way ticket to getting the edge on the enemy.

We’ve made changes to how the Trench Gun looks and feels making for a more natural, smoother and overall supreme animation. Sprinting now looks as it should as you grapple for control of those tight corners in close proximity combat and the new kick gives it a satisfying feel as you land that all important blow on the opposition.
To bring the knife more inline with its counterparts we’ve added a crosshair, this is an important addition for those looking to line up grenades as we set in motion how we want to change the scape of melee combat based on feedback.

We’ve made some changes to the inventory system and how filters work, meaning you can find and equip skins in a much more efficient manner. A small quality of life change in our ongoing changes to how we’re looking to how players interact with the UI and vice versa.
We’ve increased the FPS Cap from 200 to 240 to better support the ongoing advances in monitor hardware.
With the server browser in mind, we’ve started to address issues some of you have had whilst implementing small quality of life changes to improve your journey into a community led environment. Community plays a stand out foundation for Battalion 1944 so for us these changes are an important starting point for how we can better evolve overall.

Our first quality of life improvement and sort after tool is the ‘Favourite’ feature. You can now click the helpful star icon next to the servers ping and these servers will continue to stay at the top of your Server Browser come rain or shine. Finding your go to servers has never been easier!

Another server browser issue we’re looking to tackle is the correct ping being displayed within the browser itself. Below you can find a quick and helpful guide from our man in the cloud James Tatum as to why custom servers may show their current values and how to combat that issue if you’re a server host.

When setting up a server, the "QueryPort" in the launch command should always be the "Port" number + 3. For example, if your "Port" is set as 7777, your "QueryPort" should be 7780. If this is not the case, ping will always be shown as either 999 or 0. If this IS the case and your ping is still showing as either 999 or 0, it means that steam cannot ping your server. This is likely due to a firewall or port forwarding issue.

With a focus on the community we’ll also be looking to start an ongoing ‘Community Highlight’, we’ll be talking to those that create custom maps and the likes with ways for players to try and test them in an environment for all to enjoy. Introducing Infection, Battalion 1944's new eerie, Halloween game mode set to launch this afternoon. The infected have risen, still craving the remnants of war. There is no solace to be found in the eyes of the reanimated and those strong few will have a tough time on the battlefield.
No trick, all treat, darkness falls upon our Manorhouse map which has been reimagined for those brave enough to go toe to toe with the Infected. Featuring a number of aesthetically haunting changes you and your squad must act fast to hold off the unrelenting swarm being careful not to fall victim to your pursuers. If you’re unfortunate enough to join the undead horde then don’t worry, increased speed awaits you in the ‘not so’ afterlife making for a fun, frantic and frightful game mode! Though the event runs in its own queue till October 31st, our Infection game mode will still be accessible via the community server browser for all those that choose to host their own frightful servers with access to ALL maps!

As we look to constantly address and revitalise how XP is distributed in Battalion 1944, we have made some small changes to better accommodate our Arcade audience. More often than not players will be rewarded for how good they are rather than the time they invest which can force a divide that we wouldn’t like to support. Time not ability will be rewarded as we look to move away from the often hard felt grind of players with only limited play time. In spite of this, we have increased all Arcade win and loss by 500% and 400% respectively. This change will make for better pacing of our 2 month seasons without overly punishing those for missing out.
Halloween wouldn't be the same without a few spooky cosmetics to see you through. For the entirety of our special event, Level Ups will now drop 'Trick or Treat' Warchests featuring up to 9 themed skins, including a new slasher themed knife!

With our Autumn MSU on the horizon we're still working towards our goal of improving the overall feel and quality of Battalion 1944. We're still on track to make changes at the end of October and on wards as we continue to support Battalion for our wonderful community.

What is Battalion 1944?

Battalion 1944 is an ode to classic FPS titles of yesteryear, a true test of skill, teamwork and impactful plays in a World War 2 setting. During Battalion’s time in early access we developed features, functionality and plenty of content updates in collaboration with our community. As a result, Battalion taken on its own identity with its own classic competitive edge. Front and center we have Wartide - a highly competitive, single-life, round-based mode that requires just as much tactical and strategic knowhow as it does skill. After that we have fan favouirtes such as Rifles Only, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Headquarters and more -Players can expect to have their reflexes and ability tested to their full potential as they work their way through Season 6 of our BattleRank system where they can accumulate FREE War Chests and skins for all their aesthetic needs!

Wartide!

Once you’re done running, gunning and fighting your way up the scoreboard, how about turning up the heat? Battalion 1944 features its very own competitive game mode called Wartide! In Wartide, 2 teams of 5 will face off against each other in a grueling 24 round showdown of attack and defence. As the attacking team tries to plant the bomb, destroying 1 of 2 enemy objectives, the defending side will use communication, aim and impactful plays to stop the opposing side.

Wartide also plays home to its own economy system, as teams dispatch their foes, win rounds and complete the objective, they’ll earn tokens to spend on an array of weaponry to aid them in combat to take home the victory. Though be mindful to not overspend, as a poor economy can mean the difference between triumph and being punished. Those of you that do suffer a loss of tokens, fear not! A helpful ‘Donate Token’ option can be found on the Buy Menu (B) meaning teammates can lift each other out of perils grasp!

With Competitive Wartide comes a full ELO led environment with FACEIT integration for you to climb ladders and earn prizes in your journey to the top of your chosen region. For those of you looking to play our competitive mode without the pressure it can sometimes bring, Unranked Wartide is but a few clicks away for you to learn weapons, maps, nades and strats. Play at your own pace, solo or with friends, the choice is yours!

Special Event: Free For All Rifles Only

Rifles Only has played a big part in Battalion’s journey thus far. A perfect way to warmup and improve your aim, this fast paced arena will have you well on your way to becoming Battalion 1944’s number one sharpshooter. Now on its own queue for instant access!

Where to Begin?

Every experienced, new, and returning FPS gamer has a preference when it comes to their ingame settings. We here at Bulkhead Interactive understand the joy in fine tuning our in game environment to cater both to our aesthetic and technical needs. Via the Settings you can change a multitude of options to have your game better represent the player you are. Whether you’re looking you’re keen on atmospherics or a minimalistic competitive gamer, Battalion’s ingame Tune has you covered for the first few steps with our Beauty and Performance options. Below you will be granted the versatility to create a game with a look and feel you adore. Stuck for frames? Try enabling Forward Renderer and kick your game into gear for those on the lower side of the performance spectrum. Not a fan of the lense flare or head bob? Turn it off! Your game, your rules.

On top of this we also include the appropriate options for you to bind your weapons how you like, guns and player model position can be changed as you see fit as well as having recently added the game’s melee option as its very own entity, meaning you can now delegate between the 3 weapon slots in any manner you like. Play around with it and see what fits you best!

We suggest doing all of the above and getting a real feel for your new weaponry on our training map Upottery! You’ll find a selection of every weapon featured in the game, alongside targets to fire at to get a feel for recoil and a helpful obstacle course to improve your movement.

With the Free Weekend announcement well under way, what better time for our Autumn Season Update to hit the ground running!

The Autumn Season Update is the second seasonal update in Battalion 1944's road map since release as part of our ongoing support to improve the games, and our players overall experience. This month is no different as we look to change the dynamic of the playing field whilst maintaining the competitive integrity of the game! How do we do this you ask, well lets get into it.

Knife To Meet You!

Knives in Battalion 1944 can now be fully equipped. Using a third weapon slot, taking the law into your own hands has never been easier. Pre-match knife rounds feel more rounded, movement is aesthetically improved and using Mouse 2 will silently walk you out of any sticky situation much like the pistol. We felt with the inclusion of new knife skins in our Summer Update, it was only fair for players to inspect their new armaments in the same fashion as their counterparts - but why stop at an inspect? Each knife has its own equip animation giving what we feel is a more pleasing to the eye experience. Knives currently play a primarily cosmetic role but this doesn't mean we won't be monitoring feedback moving forward!

For those of you with configs set in stone, we suggest rebinding the following to pave the way for your new weapon.

After Invasion's week long testing during our Special Event stage we are pleased to announce that the map will be making a full time return to our Arcade and Competitive game modes! Invasion has come a long way and now we get to see how our community really put it through its paces in the competitive environment. A lot of positions that were utilised during previous stages have been fixed to keep the balance of play but we recognise the importance and celebration of team creativity so are interested to see what you guys find next!

The next map to receive the rework treatment will be Savoia which will be entering the fray during Autumn's Mid Season Update in our attempt to flesh out a well received pool of maps the community can be proud of. For those of you that want to get involved with future development then look no further than our discord and social channels for Live Stream announcements with Brammer!

Communication is key in the line of duty, a foot put wrong in the line of fire means comms can hit a breaking point. One way we've set out to help new players are map call outs found underneath the Minimap. If you've ever been unsure of where you're at, worry no longer.

The Red Sun Warchest

The Red Sun Warchest takes inspiration from the far East providing a multitude of new skins for an array of weapons within Battalion 1944. Tucked away deep inside is another new knife for you to flip, shank and shake around in the trenches. Why float like a butterfly when you could sting like one? Introducing, the Butterfly Knife. There are three ways to get these skins:
