Maybe there is a better alternative?
there's a mod called Castle Volkihar Rebuilt, I haven't try it myself but it seems to do what you want
egyptian themed music from that mod for his mod https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19858
It's a follower mod that allows for more control and changes yah. Can change equipment on followers, have multiple follow, set base locations and schedules, allow sandboxing, improved AI, teach new spells to follwers, etc etc. It's really clean and well done. Only issue I've encountered while using it pertains to Serana not leaving as a follower until you finish the questline, can be a bit immersion breaking near start of questline, but otherwise functions perfectly fine, doesn't break anything.
Personally I love it for populating my larger player homes, it would be my top recommendation for a follower mod to anyone looking for one. Works well alongside stuff like Sacrosanct and Growl as well, so NPC's you turn can be controlled by the framework as well.
