Black screen after loading ...
I know this is nothing new, but I wanted to share "my case".

Since AE came out, I have been able to play without problem and with about 25-30 mods activated (graphics, armor, immersive, etc.) and I have played many hours without any problem. But that is over. I have been a bit greedy, and I have put a few more mods (nothing exaggerated, only 4-5 more, and removing the one for Dragons diversity, the rest was tiny) but as a result of this, the game has stopped working.

When I try to load game, it stays black, no matter what game I try to load. Ultimately, I can't play the game.

I've tried various things, uninstalling the latest mods, disabling all mods, doing the cache thing on Steam, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Any suggestion?

And guessing you aren't using a mod manager?
If so, you may have left a file behind somewhere when uninstalling, or an ini file was edited and is incompatible.

What would I do? Backup saves, wipe, and reinstall will save you headaches and time.

I second this. I also have this problem! Though with me it's the upgraded (patch 1.6, with the 4 new free mods) Skyrim special edition. The ONLY other mod I've installed is the unofficial skyrim SE patch: but that one was supposed to be already "adapted" to the new upgrade(?).

So I'm really not sure what gives, but I never had those probs before.

At the start, it was really going well, was far into the "saints&seducers" quest (fairly good one, that, with lot's of new stuff). Saved. And now when loading it gets a black screen. It's weird because I *did* save and loaded before, and then everything went well.

Now, I can only load an much earlier save, *before* I started the saint&seducers quest, and right after I installed the new USSEP. So I think it's due to one of the two (or the combination of both).

Clearly, there seem to be some bugs that need to be ironed out.

Hey it worked for me but try in the setting menu before you load the game turning large object distance to minimum. Let me know if this works for you too.

So...anyone having a solution for this problem, yet?

Is it due to the new USSEP, or because of the new DLC's/mods?

It seems it's a problem related to AE and mods. With the update now it loads faster but the mods, for some reason, take more time to load on the game, causing some ctd or freezes in the game.

Right now Bethesda is working on it, at least is what they say.

it's the mods...

It can't be SOLELY with the AE version. I have just the upgraded Skyrim special edition, and I have the black screen as well.

I'll buy the AE when it's around 5 bucks. ;-)

This fixed the black screen issue for me. Easy fix as well.

I'm gonna try that when I get home, but I'm really lost, as I have 2 saves on one character, about 30 min apart, same mods, one will load, one won't....

Actually, Even if you don't upgrade to AE version. It was forcing on you with their new update whether you buy it or not. So the problem right now is as Jason said.

Regarding the black screen issue - indeed, very many people have it, modded or vanilla - even vanilla saves made prior to the update are not working and this is, as stated above,
common to both the update and to AE, as they both use the new compiler. Bethesda is currently working on a fix for this, but there is currently no timeline for when it will be available. The best advice that can be given is, simply, if a person updated SSE or bought the Anniversary Edition, then they should just start a new game.

And there is this post from Bethesda:

There are some workarounds being batted about - but I think that the main one is to try a clean reinstall and start a new game:

And if that doesn't work, take the opportunity to try playing another game in your library that you've been thinking of playing for a while.
