How to keep your modded game safe after update.

If you use Vortex...


1. DO NOT UPDATE YOUR GAME.
2. Set game updates for skyrim to "Only update this game when I launch it"
3. Everytime start game from Vortex.
4. Game lunch without updating, game do not start download update when you quit game.

Game dont ask you for updates untill you decide to do it by lunching Skyrim from steam. As long you avoid steam as luncher you will be absolutely fine.

The same results can be achieved if you use the SKSE64_loader.exe launcher from your desktop. I don't launch the game from my Vortex.

But yes....good advice.

I exclusively launch the game through mod organizer and the update still starts to download after I quit the game with that option enabled on steam configuration.

Main rules is "Do not lunch game from steam library."

As i read downgreat do not work and game will be broken anyway. So dont risk.

I lunched my game in way as i described and game do not start updating process.

this did not work for me. Skyrim did not update but when I attempted to run with skseloader64, like ive been doing daily, it gave a message saying it couldnt find something and refused to run.
Eventually i updated skyrim and installed the new skse from silverlock and skyrim and its 68 installed mods runs great. 5 hours now and zero hiccups

I cant tell much about other lunchers or opening game directly using Skseloader64.
I run game only by Vortex

I'm afraid to click the Icon for my game it's still telling me it needs to be updated in the game library and I have so many mods in my game nvm just reread your post

Use the downgrader or at least have a copy of the old Skyrim folder so you can later download the update but replace the updated files with the copy.

Those are two other solutions of doing it.

It is very important to change update options as i described. This option do not let steam update skyrim behind your back.

I did do all that by watching a youtube video but is it safe to launch it through the SKSE icon on the desktop?
