If you use Alternate Start, when (If at all) do dragons start spawning?
I don't know how it works when the main questline isn't a factor.

Dragon Rising quest.

I don't remember if it was at the start of the quest or after you complete it.

Dragon spawns (and main quest) start as soon as you bring the dragon stone to Farengar. If you want to avoid dragons and the main quest you best never visit Helgen and Bleak Falls Barrow, and never talk to the Jarl of Whiterun. I just did it that way, pure survival/exploration. To start the main quest, investigate Helgen and take it from there.

Or use Skyrim Unbound Reborn to prospone dragon spawning for as long as you want. Once you enable dragon spawning and you kill your first dragon, you will hear the call of the Greybeards and the main questline starts, where ever you kill the first dragon. To become thane of Whiterun you will have to help a number of NPCs in the Whiterun Hold, just like in the other holds.

Oh. So dragons just won't exist in a playthrough if you avoid the questline by using Alternate Start, and you're railroaded even if you have them spawn via unbound reborn. F.

Even without alternative start mods, dragons don't exist until you do the white run dragon quest.

Sure, that one in the intro wasn't a dragon...

Are you being intentionally obtuse? Even with the one in the intro, a dragon will never appear in game until you do the white run dragon quest. For all intents and purposes, they don't exist in game until that quest is done and you fight the first dragon at the white run tower.

No he wasn't, he was an ex avatar of Akatosh, so could arguably be called an Aedra rather than a Dragon....

Yes, that's it. Let's forget mods for a moment and just look at the vanilla game. If the player doesn't inform the jarl of Whiterun after excaping Helgen, Mirmulnir will never show up at the Western Watchtower and no dragons will spawn. If the player doesn't join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks, there will not be a civil war, although many NPCs will keep talking about an ongoing war. If the player doesn't fall for Brynjolf's scheme, the Thieves Guild members will stay in their underground hole and nobody gets robbed, only Shadr will be harassed by Sapphire. If the player doesn't join the College of Winterhold, there will be no issues with the Eye of Magnus and whatever it may cause. Dark Brotherhood, Daedric Princes, Dawnguard or Volkihar Clan, and whatever else just the same.

Yeah, the game definitely suffers from Main Character Syndrome in almost every way. I wish there were workarounds, but the main character reliance aspect is so prevelant that a workaround simply can't exist.

There can be but not many mod authors seem to be willing to change that part of the game. Also it will quite difficult to alter the quests and scripts to do so.

not possible; in any of those scenarios to work without dragonborn's presence, they would have to be autonomous and therefore timed and missable. Beth is just feeding the average gamer's ego, I am the only thing important in the world.

I mean Mirrak would have enslaved all of Solstheim, and when you get there, hordes of mobs you can't handle swarm you, and he's already replaced you, kills you with a glance, and roll credits... who's that fun for?

there's no workarounds because there can't be a workaround, what you're trying to "work around" is the actual game content itself.

Although it would be funny to accommodate them in some way... the ex leader of the Blades when you meet her is trying to pick up the horn and leave a note so you'll come meet her, but her frail and aged body is beat to a pulp and bloody and she berates you for taking too long to start the quest, cusses you out, and dies...

I've used a mod called "Paradigm", which skips to the Helgen Keep cave exit, and you don't have to talk to Gurder or Alvor in Riverwood. The main quest starts when you talk to the Jarl of Whiterun, In the unmodded game, if you don't talk to anyone on Riverwood for a certain amount of time, I just skips to sending you to Whiterun anyway. It's a light weight mod that works great if the intro drive you crazy.

If you think the game is that sophisticated, then you're wrong. There is nothing timed in the game. The gamer's ego is only feeded by getting 100% achievements, which will provide you nothing at all, no rewards. What's the purpose? Miraak will not have enslaved all of Solstheim, because that has already been delt with by quests and scripts. In fact, everything in the game has been delt with by quests and scripts. Once a certain area in the game is not 3D loaded (the player is not in that area) nothing will happen. Enter Breezehome when a guard is passing by. When you leave Breezehome that guard will start patrolling again, just if never having moved at all.
