1) install game
2) start game
3) stop game, b/c remember all the crap you have to tweak
4) mess with .ini files for a whole night, b/c you can't adjust FOV or other things in-game
5) install Auto hotkey, b/c you can't remap certain keys
6) forget where you left your pre-canned script, so spend an evening looking up how to make AHK scripts to remake your remapping script
7) fire up internal mod manager to reinstall the mods you faved
8) Bethesda.net doesn't like your login, so spend an evening trying to get Skyrim re-logged into Bethesda.net to get teh mods you faved
8) download external mod manager
9) install a bunch of mods, and try to make sure you get the reqs correct or else you can break something
10) Ok, now that you have all that done.. download a downgrader, b/c latest patch messed everything up again
11) (five days later) you can finally enjoy the game... and don't DARE uninstall the game, or you'll be punished with having to go through all this again!
We must be serious gluttons for punishment.
If they rolled out patches that bolted on FOV slider, optimized game engine, etc along with the creation club and paid mods stuff, I'd be cool with that. But, they can't even be arsed to bake-in the Unofficial Skyrim Patch modders made. That's what irks me. Modders literally fix everything, and hand it over on a silver platter. And Bethesda can't even be arsed to bake it into the base game. Community shaders that optimize shaders. Fixed Parallax textures. Optimized cubic textures. Modders have fixed so much stuff, and Bethesda's like "nah, fam... we're just here to make sure the store-front works, and here's more $5 outfits." Like... good lord. Why do I keep hanging out with this game company when they clearly don't care about me as a customer.
Several peeps I know keep backups of their installs for this sort of thing.
