There is no simple answer anymore.
I mod with 1.6.640 and the Anniversary DLC installed as well. I can build a load order with the same mods I used before 1.6.xxx came out with the exception of Netscript Framework and No Grass in Objects. Load orders of over 1,000 mods on 1.6.xxx seem to be fairly common from what I've seen and I've built them myself..
No, it's still pretty bad. Some mod authors stopped updating because Bethesda kept pushing out updates on AE and several mods still don't have AE versions and likely never will.
It's a mess.
Unless you're using Collections or Wabbajack lists, you need to check every mod you download to make sure it has a version that corresponds to your version. Some will have AE versions but won't be updated for the newest patch. Some won't have AE versions at all.
It is better than when AE was 1st released but it's also more complex since it's no longer AE or pre-AE, it's AE, newest AE patch and pre-AE.
AE is the community term to describe after 1.5.97 as well as the official term for the AE DLC package. When you split hairs like this, you make it more confusing.

So that when there are conflicting statements, a person can see whose post and information should be accepted and whose post and information should be disregarded.
It 100% is, I don't care what the pinned topic says. I care what the community says.
AE and SE are used on Nexus, the primary source for mods to denote 1.5.97 and post 1.5.97.
You are doing nobody any favors by being anal and denying common terminology. Stop it, save that stuff for veteran modders, not a help topic where these things matter.
