Make sure you have this version of SKSE:
Current Anniversary Edition build 2.2.3 (game version 1.6.640)
(The above is the correct version whether you have the AE DLC pack, or just the latest version of skyrim)
Make sure you have version 1.1.4 of SoS
Make sure you have version 1.65 of the other obvious mod.
That combo works for me on an up-to-date skyrim. If you are getting an error about a dll file, you have either the wrong version of skse, or the wrong version of SoS. Outside of this information, I cannot help you with any other issues.
Good luck, I'm going to bed.
My SKSE is fine i think but i run into trouble with that skeleton mod, conflicting with SoS.
XPMSSE should be allowed to win conflicts against SOS and every other mods that have inbuilt custom skeletons.
XP32 should always have higher priority than SoS.
And make sure you have the multi-edition as well.

The mod priority should be like this...
XP32
SoS
SoS Multi Edition
didn't know about this one; that might actually help, thanks!
Oops.. I mess up the priority.. higher priority go like this.
SoS
SoS Multi Edition
XP32
Done...
thanks
