Disable vampire content.
Is there a way to disable the vampire quest line?
I think it was originally a DLC right?

Just don't do it? Unlike when it first came out, there won't be random vampire attacks on cities resulting in dead NPCs. Those got disabled in Special Edition.

:steamthis:THIS! Disabling/removing any of the base game content WILL break the game (in some cases, such as with what were the original 3 DLCs, the game may not even launch). The only exception is Survival mode, which can be turned on or off via an in game option (but which also will potentially bork things if outright removed).

The in town vampire attacks, as stevenrtirey posted, no longer occur, as the global variable for them was changed.

pretty much this, however i do believe the base game has vampires + the disease in it, so there's no getting rid of vampires entirely without mods i think.

There are vampires in Skyrim outside of Dawnguard. So, no, disabling Dawnguard won't remove vampires. Also, disabling Dawnguard on a save where it was enabled will break the save, so you'll have to start anew. If your main issue is vampire attacks, I think they were disabled, but if not, Arthmoor has a mod for that and dragon attacks.

Disabling Dawnguard in SSE will break the game - regardless of save status. Base game components are now an integral part of the game.

And yes, Vampire attacks in towns were disabled.

I haven't really played the Dawnguard quests in a VERY long time. I remember the Soul Cairn sucking and just really don't ever want to go back there. :D I actually forgot all the DLC rolled up. Hmm... may need to start playing again. Wait, so that makes Arthmoor's mode obsolete? I assume it's still good for dragons since all the residents of Riverwood headed for the hills the last time I was there, no? Or is that also base game?

Arthmoor's Run For Your Lives is still effective - hence why all the residents skedaddled - LOL! Without it, they would stay and fight.

OP...why do you ask? Three is quite possibly a chance the community can help you with the cause for your question rather than the question itself.

Okay, good to know. I'm getting that itch again. Maybe after I finish High on Life.

Another thing even IF you could disable it you also lose crossbows, dragonbone weapons, etc

dragons still attack, so yes, you would still need a mod for that. But old mods may go nuts in the latest version. Look for something more recent / relevant to your version.

That was the point!
Thanks to everyone for the answers!

Just don't do it because it will likely break the game and if random vampire attack happens, just download mods that protect all the NPCs like "Protect Your People - PYP"

The age of a mod has nothing to do with it - it is a mod's dependencies upon SKSE64 versions - for which the overwhelmingly vast majority of mods have been updated for - which is the determining factor. Mods that do not require a specific game version will work just fine (provided, of course, that the mod works fine to begin with). People need to try and avoid posting statements based upon insufficient information or knowledge.

Run For Your Lives is a fantastic mod and has been for years - there is no better for what it does.

citation needed for this one as recent as 2022 the random attacks still happen in se
as soon as dawngaurd quest pops up just finish it immediately even if you need to use god mode if you dont they eventually kill merchant npcs.
