Cannot Download CC Content [SOLVED]
Hey y'all,

I re-installed SSE/SAE fresh, cleaned up residual old files, game launches and all, BUUUUT... I cannot download any CC Content. It "fails to connect to BGS servers" after about 5 min of just pondering over its existence. I haven't been around SSE for like a year, not sure what this mess with CC content is all about?! Is this normal or is this a new issue that happens to exist?

You have to have a valid logon to Bethesda.net, and link it to your steam profile.

If anyone ever runs into tthis issue, switch your PC to wifi. For some reason hard-lined PC struggles to download CC, but wifi works like a charm

Wifi from the same network switch as the hardline or from another network?

People have had success using a VPN to connect to Bnet, as it changes your IP address essentially. But just switching from hardline to wifi on the same network doesn't change your external IP which is strange if that solved it.

Switching to wifi from a different network would give a different external IP and would make more sense if that solved the connection issue, please let us know.

true but it has for many people. Then again so has doing the reverse by switching from wi-fi to ethernet worked for some. I also remember seeing where verifying the integrity of your game files thru Steam corrected the issue or I should say allowed people to download the content. One user even reported changing SkyrimSE.exe to admin solved it for them.

On the other hand I've set up Skyrim SE with the Anniversary DLC on 3 different PC's since November of 2021 and never once had an issue downloading the content. Heck during that same time period I even switched providers and from Ethernet to home wireless 5G and was able to download with no issues.

I am kinda amazed that this is an actual solution.

A quote from 2018 when F4 was having a ton of issues with people connecting to the Bnet.

Well since you asked, Again, For the same info I have provided you before, In such a nice manner without all the little hearts in the post...

Why I Blame Bethesda
  • Their official statements imply they will fix the issues in F4, SSE.
  • We have 100% proof they patched network issues in 76. Which the traffic is far more complex than downloading CC items. History shows they have had issues before, And no reason to suspect F4 and SSE are any different.

We believe we have resolved the issue that was causing players to disconnect from servers and you should once again be able to log in to Fallout 76. We hope you have a blast taking the Wasteland by storm! Please let us know if you continue to encounter any issues connecting to worlds. Thank you very much!

I guess that basically solves the issue of ISPs blocking traffic to Bethesda's servers, which means netcode for Creation Club is a complete spaghetti.
  • Reported crashes from the following 19 countries, 4 different continents. NA, EU, Asia, Africa

    Finland
    Norway
    Sweden
    Russia
    Poland
    Hungary
    Romania
    Switzerland
    Germany
    Turkey
    Slovakia
    Czech Republic

    Hawaii
    America - midwest

    Vietnam
    Israel
    Zimbabwe

There is simply no topic one can use that would tie all of those widespread locations together in any way, Or is it that there are multiple seperate network issues that only target one developers servers in the whole world? I doubt it. Its far more believable the issue stems from one single issue, as reasonably confirmed here:

Thank you very much for reaching out to us about this. I understand your concern in this situation as this has been a prolonged issue. Our development teams are still working diligently towards a fix for this. The only known workarounds for this particular issue is to : Block the .EXE files in your antivirus and firewall software or play the game while completely offline.

We are unable to speculate on a specific date on when this issue with be fixed - however we are hoping it will be soon. I understand that this is not the most favorable response. We just implore a bit more of your patience until this issue is resolved by the development teams. Thank you for your continued interest and suport!

Our development team is aware of a crash issue with both Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition that occurred following the December updates. They are working to get the matter resolved as quickly as possible. We hope to have it fixed in a future update to the game. If you wish to play you'll need to use the workaround of disabling your internet access

  • We have the following uer posts to link the crashing to all 3 games:
Doesn't work for me. Xbox One in Slovakia here, Fallout 4, Skyrim SE and Fallout 76 Beta, all crash on startup. All work when tethered to a mobile LTE internet.
    Bethesda are you sh***ing me?

  • The following theories are debunked or proven inconclusive:
Debunked the VPN theory as proof it is ISP based issues. #1011
Debunked the theory that specific ports are the cause. #1128
Debunked the theory that is is localized by collecting enough user reports to show otherwise. #1066 (19 countries, 4 Continents.Asia EU, NA, Africa) I would assume that after being this widespread, Only insane people would still claim ISP or regional issue. Apparently they exist.
  • We would check the crash diagnostic logs, But they never coded any (resolved in F76)
  • No internet disconnection windows, Only crashing (resolved in 76)
  • The lack of communication on the issue is 100% their fault. Regardless of cause, There is no valid reason to ignore the topic since april.
  • Their dev team had a plethora of issues with the launch of fallout 76, Showing obvious incompetance regarding basic things like getting the launch windows of beta wrong due to their inability to get timezones correct, The beta installers deleted the installs from thousands of users. Needless to say, They have had a rough launch. If they did not have the time and/or ability to get that correct, Which was their biggest focus of the year by far, Then how are people expected to believe that they are innocent regarding the F4 and SSE issues that they already admit to working on. If it was an ISP problem, Why wait 11.5 months and not say anything? Why tell people your working on it if they knew they couldn't? Why not rid themselves of every single ounce of blame and just come out and say the words "call your damn ISP's"

It's simple, Because its not reality, They are to blame, They do have problems, They have directly caused their customers problems in all 3 games, Weather intentionally or not, It doesn't change the fact that they are very far from innocent.

^ Which is far more evidence than "it happened before"

Lets just say they are no strangers to connection problems.

Same network. I don't have VPN, no money for it atm.
But unplugging hard line and switching to wifi did the trick.I'm not sure why it worked, but I found this suggestion of Reddit and was surprised it worked. However, this issue is not limited to just PC. Quite a few people reported having the same issue with Playstation... 4, I believe
