You cannot simply dump 120+ mods into your game at once. It doesn't work that way.

Go back and start small. Pick a few mods, maybe 10, that each do something different - armor, weapons, magic, NPCs, etc - and ensure they work together.
Then, add no more than 5 more at once, to ensure they will work with your original 10.

Fully read AND fully understand the Mod Description page at Nexus, including the Installation and Troubleshooting and Known Incompatibilities.

Mods that do the same thing will cause problems, no matter how much you want them to work together for whatever reason you want them to. Mods do not care how much you like them or how much you want them to work together. They're not humans who can be forced (the dumb ones anyway) to get along with others despite inherent incompatibilities.

I see, thank you for the information. I will attempt your suggestions.
Skyrim has a third party tool to sort your load order. This tool is called Load Order Optimization Tool (LOOT). It reads through the records in ESP files and determines the load order from these. Also see the section: Requesting help from the forum in this post.

LOOT detects Skyrim Special Edition, starting from version 0.10.0, released 06.11.2016.

LOOT
https://loot.github.io/

  1. When you open LOOT it will first check for master list and version updates. This does not sort your load order yet.

  2. Click "Sort Plugins" button. It appears as a 3 lines in top right corner of LOOT window. This will now sort your load order.

  3. After LOOT is done, the "Sort Plugins" changes to text button saying "APPLY". Click the button to accept changes made to your load order.
^^that's from the pinned topics^^
You may want to read through the ones by Ilja and SMR, since these contain links and guides to modding skyrim.
What is the difference between the plugins and the mods? I see two different tabs in vortex for them.
Ok, I've gotten my mods down to about 10-15 now but the game still wont load. any ideas?

No problem, Also you should grab a tool called Mod Organizer 2 when paired with LOOT it will make loading the game simpler because you are installing into a virtual install folder and not mucking up the actual install directory minus say maybe FNIS and SKSE64 which are probably missing from your install order causing you to crash to desktop I have 94 plugins current working and boy the game is different. From combat to the way men and women and the beast races look :).

I tried that, but still nothing, the only time I can play is if I disable every mod I have enabled. kinda boaring :(

If you got Mod Organize 2 what does the red triangle say ? Those are your conflicting mods :) Another random idea and speculation. Does your system meet the requirements of a mod heavy enviroment?

If you're using Vortex then you don't need to worry about load order; it has LOOT support build in and will automatically handle that for you.

I suppose this all depends on the tool(s) you're using. Vortex would immediately mention if there are any conflicts and it would also provide suggestions to resolve those (by loading one mod before the other for example).

My advice would be to let Vortex handle all this. It will also make it much easier to download & install mods from Nexus; usually you can tell the website to download the mod using Vortex. After that all you have to do is actually install & enable it.
