So, games like Skyrim?
I find almost every modern RPG is dogsh1t compared to Skyrim, and its not like Skyrim was that great either if you compare it to Oblivion. Overall it ticked all the boxes though even if a little dumbed down/consolized. But devs have become so lazy and people have become more stupid with their money so they just don't bother putting the work in anymore.

That being said, I loved Kingdom Come: Deliverance after the rather difficult combat learning curve.
Are there any others that come close to the medieval action RPG benchmark which Skyrim set?

Not modern-day but I loved Witcher 3, Dragon Age Origins, Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga, Risen.

Just wonder if there are any new ones that compare or any old ones I've missed?
Baldurs gate is an old goldie same as NWN but I've been spoiled by audio dialogue now, I just can't go back to text based anymore.

Suggestions appreciated! <3

All I ever see in new RPG releases are Diablo-type top-down games. There's VERY few Skyrim-like games, with first-person. In fact there's really nothing close to a Skyrim-type experience that I have seen. I find it baffling.

I can't recommend anything that you haven't probably already played. I came here to say that it's not an accident you don't find good open-world RPG games very often. There's so much more money for game companies in linear story-based games that are good for only a few play-throughs, and then you buy the next in the series. Frankly I'm amazed Bethesda even did it with ES without badgering player to purchase DLC.

VTM Bloodlines is the only other game that had that magic for me. But it's just too old now.

Divinity is also nothing like Skyrim and as Lady mentioned above: is also one of those top-down games. 'Sin' is a fun game IMO, but definitely nothing like Skyrim.

Yeah, its sad but as someone else said.. there's loads of money in just creating addictive DLC infested trash so that's what gaming has become now :(

Same, I am amazed Bethesda gave us what they did while other devs were already well onto the microtransaction trash bandwagon.
For me, real gaming feels dead and the people who think these new ones are any good are usually too young to know better.

I loved Bloodlines too. Lets hope the new one is comparable in quality but I don't hold much hope.

I do like the look of it.. but turn based strategy and RPG isn't the same sort of game. I'll probably enjoy it though, as its similar to NWN. Cheers!

Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga I think it was called (removed from store now but check it out for sure!), I played it and it was action RPG with tons of story, side quests and combat. Also like Oblivion they had something similar where you need to shut down the oblivion gates.

The only one on the horizon is probably the new Obsidian RPG Avowed.

While not strictly medieval Greedfall isn't bad even if its a bit janky.

A bit older but Two worlds 1 & 2 are in the genre. Be aware Two worlds has some of the single worst voice acting in gaming history. Forsooth tis verily stinks to high heaven.

Otherwise the Witcher series
Avowed looks good and first person too! Thanks I'll watch that one :)
Same for Greedfall, going to try that one as well!
Yes, know what you mean about two worlds voice acting lmao. I think if that was done properly the game would have gotten more attention maybe.
Loved W3 but couldn't stomach the first 2 controls and camera. It gave like a nasty PSX feel.

Thanks all!

I'm aware of that,i played both plenty. But, if you read the OP, you'd notice that he/she mentioned liking games like Baldurs Gate. And this is very much like it.

I mean i even quoted that part.

There isn't even a suitable substitute to BGS' version of Fallout.

Yep I found TOW boring too. It was a game that would have done great and captured a cult following in the 00s but felt like it offered nothing by todays standards which set it apart from all the others. And none of the characters were interesting or likeable. I kept playing it to force myself to like it but after maybe 60h it just didn't grow on me.

what is your point? Original Sin is an RPG. So is NWN. RPGs don't have to be first person or real time.

Does that work with all your mods and stuff? I mean, I'm sure you could have some that conflict, but in general?
