can i have vortex redownload all nexus mods automaticaly after a clean install of skyrim?
dunno if this is possible but it is a massive pain to comb over the nexus and redownload every mod just because i need to reinstall skyrim, is there a way i can get nexus to remember them all and download them in one go? just leave my pc to take care of it?

You can try that collections open alpha, it can be used in that function.
All you need to do is update Vortex to the new beta version, there is a link to it on Nexus mods news.

Does Vortex not save the mods you download? Or at least the .zip file?
HazakTheMad Jan 10, 2022 @ 11:38pm
Oh, it does, as long as you didn't delete the download folder's contents.

The Vortex's download folder to be exact.

You don't have to re-download anything because Vortex will have kept its own copy, even for mods which you downloaded yourself and dragged & dropped into it.

So just trash your Skyrim program folder, and hit re-install when the new version is done.

Don't forget to manually install the latest version of SKSE. After that Vortex will also notify you of several mod updates, assuming that you haven't already installed these.

argh...we can't support collections here haz. besides you'll always be better off building your own mod list. Now for those who can't get the feel of modding collections might be a good alternative. but I'm not encouraging or suggesting them especially while they are in beta.

Collections backs up download links and loadorder, it is one of the thing many use it for, you just
make a unlisted collection, it allows for easy backup and restore.

Just an FYI: For me they are in a folder called "Vortex Mods"

Oh I'm not debating that at all. But there is no reason to push collections when people are trying to mod. We help them instead.

I agree. Not a fan of collections. What works beautifully on some people's systems may not work at all on others'. We see this all the time on here. We're always preaching to users to install mods one at a time (with prerequisites) and then testing it in-game before moving on to the next, because installing a bunch of mods all at once can cause a huge number of issues. Especially with novice users, who won't know how to troubleshoot their lists to find the issues.

I'm late to the party but I *think* what they were advocating was making a collection out of your OWN mods and then using that to reinstall the mods after reinstalling the game.

IMO the reason OP needs to reinstall the game is the whole question.

Vortex stores the mods locally. This is true.

You can make a backup of your mod list with an unnamed, personal collection. Also true.

But if the reason OP needs to reinstall is due to the Skyrim update, neither of the above solutions will fix the problem. Vortex will NOT download and install the latest version of mods in either circumstance. Furthermore, Vortex can not tell you when a mod needs an NG patch or has been replaced with a different mod due to the update.

As long as Beth/MS continue to update the game, I see no reason to ever use collections unless you protect your game from updates. So if the reason OP asked the question is due to updating the game, only Vlad's answer is viable, long term.

Nothing else has worked for me.
