And, to be clear, you never had any mods installed at any point on any previous save that you used on this playthrough - because if you did and removed them, and then continued playing - the save is broken.
That's what is so surprising. I saw that they were minor bug fixes but being a solely vanilla player, I usually don't have crashing issues. Sure it crashes sometimes, but not usually a trigger like this where each time it crashes. Oh well. Thanks.
I think this is due to the recent update. Perhaps a little later this will be fixed.
I don't want to use console commands to complete this quest - I want to get all the game's achievements.
