Vortex Moved Mod Files And Now Game Won't Start
So recently i was adding some new mods, though they weren't causing any issues because my game was running fine. however i noticed one that edited meshes wasn't working (Better Male Meshes i think it's called) so i went into vortex to see if I couldn't figure out what the issue was, I was assuming load order.
But then Vortex told me that some of my mods weren't able to launch and I went "oh! that must be the mod i opened you to look for, how convenient!" So i clicked on the button to fix it and the recommended option was to like move all physical mod folders onto my pc into a folder called Vortex Mods. I just was like *shrug* okay and i let it do it's thing. Only problem is, now my game only opens to the loading screen with the symbol of the dragonborn and a black screen behind it and a little wheel turning in the lower right corner.
Mind you, it ran fine until right before I did this. And I don't have an insane amount of mods, maybe 57? 56?
Anyway is there a way to move all the mod files physically back into vortex? or a way to make it run this way? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mods but it just puts them back in the folder. And if I delete the folder then reinstall the mods, it just re-creates the folder. I can't find anyone else with this issue I'm having so I'm hoping someone here can offer some suggestions at least. I'd like to avoid completely uninstalling skyrim and vortex then reinstalling them if I can but if i have to do that, i will

Not sure if I fully understand but from what I can tell you should check your Vortex settings, make sure it uses the right folder(s) then get it to move everything back.

actually turns out that, after the files got moved, the unofficial skyrim patch decided to move its place in my load order to just after rs children overhaul, and they dont play nice. so now i either have to play without the patch or edit my loadorder in LOOT which is proving to be difficult because for some reason the patch is being told to load after rs children and i can't delete that line. my friend and i are trying to work out why god hates me currently
actually rs children is suppose to be in the first spot of the load order then unofficial patch (i use both of those mods plus hundreds more) and in my current load order (i also use vortex) the patch is always (both with LOOT and when sorted with the LOOT tool built into vortex) its always loaded after rs children

Well first off Vortex should not have needed to make that folder, had you installed and set it properly.

Second the fact that the folder wasn’t there, makes me think you were added mods manually.
If true or not it doesn’t matter at this point.

Third Vortex needs to be on the same drive as the game your modding, BUT not in Program Files Directory, it should be the root Directory(C:\ or whatever drive your using)

For that matter your games should be in the root folder as well( like C:\Games) not Program Files, this folder has a protection flag on it that can cause anti virus issues.(but I am getting off the subject)

Open Vortex and go to settings, now click Mods, here you should find the Mod Staging Folder. Here it should say G:\Vortex\SkyrimSE\mods, the G would be the drive letter you have placed Vortex(mine is G).
Also in here should be a Deployment Method, this should be Hardlink Deployment.

Now also in Settings click on Download, here you will find the folder the mods are downloaded to, which is C:\Users\DPMR\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\downloads, of course yours will have your user name instead of DPMR(mine).

How many times we need to write: FORGET THAT CRAP Vortex!

Use ONLY MO2 or if you like to fooling around (like me), the good-old NMM is superb and ESPECIALLY CREATED for SSE & FO4.

Oh please. More Vortex-bashing? Seriously? A couple of people have an issue that is quite possibly their own fault because Vortex may not have been installed properly with its directories, and the Vortex haters start their rants. I've been running Vortex for months with 90 mods and it has worked FLAWLESSLY. Do you realize that Vortex was written by the SAME PEOPLE that did NMM? I think they know what they're doing!

LOL totally disagree, geeez, if someone can't use Vortex what makes you think mo2 will be any easier? Vortex works like a charm and it's far easier to use. Some love Vortex and some love mo2. You're give new people bad info when you call it crap. If you don't prefer to use it then that's 100% cool. but why in oblivion would you call it crap?

My sentiments exactly. Well said.

thnx @Lady Aeleanor and likewise on your post. We are here to help each other not confuse each other. mo2 is a great tool. I use Vortex and never looked back because it works like a charm for me and my decent sized load order, but I would never call mo2 crap let alone steer people away from it. final note, if you are new to the modding scene Vortex might be a better choice only because the learning curve is not as steep. but mo2 has a steeper learning curve cuz you can do more with it. but in no way does that mean Vortex is not a powerful tool because it's been capable of taken me from 0-500 mods in no time with no problems as I built it and the game runs smooth. purrs like a khajiit:riften:
