Is there anyway of making an old save clean of mods?
I read somewhere that you might be able to transfer saves from the old game to the new. But of course its not going to have any of the mods from the old Skyrim. I just downloaded the old Skyrim to look at my saves and tried playing it without the mods. It loads but the screen keeps flashing to a black screen and back and if I try and leave the room to go outside it CTD. It is stable while in invantory mode and such. Is there anything I can do?

Skyrim bakes script data to save files. There is no safe way to clean script data away. Even save script cleaner tools will just remove obsolete entries and orphaned scripts from game world, but not from Papyrus data of the save.

If you had any such mods in your game, then I would recommend just starting a new game.

it will most likely say that mods are missing, but work fine, in some cases mod has uninstall command that you have to active before uninstalling them to clear out save of their presence. Also there ar tools that allows to edit save and clean out broken mod references, dont remember teh name but you have google for this.

Papyrus data will remain baked in the save and Papyrus itself will keep checking after it. This is what slows Papyrus down and eventually starts to create stack dumps, causing it to break down entirely.

No. There are programs to remove mod scrips on saves but it doesn't remove everything. I would just make a new save on special edition.

Does anyone know the names of any of these programs?

Nothing removes the baked script data from your save files. Your game is likely to break sooner or later.

No. You will get a corrupted save game.

Don't be fooled by the so called cleaners. The exe is far too fragile in handling script files from saves.

It will break, after hours and hours of playing. If you change something, you better start a new game.

SOLVED! I did try a cleaner once from Nexus. It said it took a lot of things off but it still didn't work. Then I remembered I still had a copy of the game on my old laptop. It had about a dozen saves that were only 5 hrs behind the one from Steam Cloud and work Perfect! Boy did I luck out. Now I only hope you can transfer them to the new Skyrim.
