I was wondering if there were mods that gave us so many enemies that you would want a handful of followers to just prevent yourself from being overwhelmed.
I use Morrowloot Ultimate which sets the level of most vanilla dungeons to be more like Morrowind; in situations where you run into bandit thigs at level 5, it might be helpful to take along a bit of muscle.
I also use Hammet's Dungeon Pack which adds 28 dungeons balanced for level 40 characters. Unfortunately, these dungeons are included in the radiant quest lists, which means the Companions might send you to one at level 10 like they did to me. In that case I needed a lot of followers to pull through, and a death alternative mod so that enemies stayed dead. I ended up losing more money than I gained.
Edit: Oh, and Sinister Seven is a mod that makes one of seven specialized assassins ambush you every few levels. They are grossly powerful for the most part, and in my experience they are generally more survivable with lots of allies. The first of the seven will curbstomp you unless you have prior knowledge of him.
