Update problem
Hello guys,

I just bought the game and installed a few mods but some mods requires a different version of the game. The current version of my game is 1.5.73.0.8 but the mods require version 1.9.32 and the game doesn`t update by itself. Can someone please help me update the game version?

Thank you.

What mods? Where did you find them and what mod manager do you use?

My guess (so I'm not sure!) is that you might have found mods which were made for Oldrim while you're running the SE version.

Yeah, that is the version number for the original game, NOT Special Edition, you can't use Oldrim mods "out of the box" though for most, porting is pretty straightforward.

I agree it sounds like you installed at least 1 Oldrim mod by accident if it's asking for v1.9.32, the last oldrim release was v1.9.32
Current SSE is v1.5.73

I noticed while I was setting up my current playthrough, it's pretty easy to accidentally end up on Oldrim's Nexus. Many mods even include links to Oldrim Nexus mods for patches and the like since the description was copy/paste when the mod was updated. I learned to double-check the URL before hitting download.

I think Wrye Bash gives an automatic warning for form 43 .esps (Oldrim) and should identify any accidental (or not properly updated) mods.

Just on the off chance that mod is SKSE then be aware they have all 3 versions on the same page. Top one is for Old Skyrim, Middle one is for Skyrim SE and the bottom is for Skyrim VR. If you are new to skyrim and modding it is easy to download the wrong one.

For million time... do not let your games to AUTOMATICALLY updating themselves, disable that.

And STORE the damn files, to have them handy and roll-back to them.

For information, my game has updates set to only happen upon launch, and this one totally ignored that, updating my game while I was not even in the country. Helpful. (I don't even launch via Steam ofc, but with SKSE).

I have got my old .exe files etc. saved however - this happens way too often not to take that precaution...

I had my game be set to never update but I once I accidentally clicked on the game itself, cause I use right mouse button on steam in the bottom right corner and it sets it on top every time I close the game. Good thing it's possible to go back by using a lot of black magic and google.

I did that once, now I not only have it update on launch, I also have the skyrim exe saved in another directory just in case

Yeah I meant only update on launch, but I dont keep a backup cause I'll forget anyways. And well, the fixing journey is the fun.

This is really simple. When viewing the Nexus, you chose the wrong Skyrim category. Be sure to look for the Skyrim Special Edition section. You accidentally installed an Oldrim mod by accident. Also make sure you installed the correct SE version of SKSE, as the link for Oldrim (what we call the original Skyrim) is nearby.

Tip, if you use MO2 you will see an icon on the left order of mods I think it was under Version. It should stand out, if I remember correctly it was a green castle tower witht some red icon but it's been a long time. That is if you got the wrong mod for the wrong version of skyrim.
