Given the ending got near impossible if your character level got too high, and the armour was scaled to your level, it was an unimpressive reward.
Bethesda don't seem to have a hang on decent rewards for saving the world, or rewards at all, they all seem to be an afterthought. And they can't get NPCs to have decent after quest dialogue either....
"Oh. Were you fishing for a compliment? A sign of gratitude? Don't waste your time. Those things are for the weak and foolish."
