Belethor's Shop In Whiterun Closed All the Time Now
I keep going back to Belethor's Shop in Whiterun to sell stuff but it's closed 24/7. The back door is open, but when I go in there, Ysolda is behind the counter and his assistant yells to the guards that I'm trespassing. What the heck? I'm wondering if Belethor is essential. If not, I MIGHT have killed him if he was in the street when I changed into a werewolf in one of the Companion's Blood Circle Quests. There were a LOT of people chasing me at that point and I know I killed Carlotta Valentia because she's gone from her stall and her daughter hates me. (wondering how the heck she would know it was me)

Ok, so I followed the instructions on the Wiki page to resurrect Belethor (he was dead) and aligned him to his store. Now the store is open again, but I still dealt with Ysolda to buy and sell. We'll see what happens.

What happened is that your game is broken beyond repair. Never use the 'resurrect' command on a named NPC.

Why? I've used it several times to no adverse affect. A shopkeeper died, I resurrected them, then they went back along their normal business. Continued to sell me stuff too.

If you look on Wiki, it is listed as a bug fix. I've used Resurrect before and my game was fine till the end. So, it's not "broken beyond repair" at all. I've also used it several times in the past when my horses kept dying. Never had a problem at all.

Yeah people are far too quick with this kind of thing. "Oh no a death script is baked into your save, scrap it all" He's not even involved in any quests, bfd.

Speaking of Companions and Carlotta.. this run through the first mission I got from the Companions was to rough her up.. Seriously guys? That's what you've become.... hired out to beat up the local widow selling vegetables so she and her daughter can survive. Ugh.

I actually just used the console to advance the quest. Couldn't bring myself to do it. Guess my game is screwed beyond repair now lol

I've probably played through the game (including Oldrim & LE) about 15-20 times doing Companion quests (even well past the main questline each time) and never had that come up. In fact, I can't recall ever getting a Brawl quest to beat up ANY female NPC - even although I have a female character.

Actually we say load a save from before he died.
If you have a method for restoring him to functionality, great, but don't be surprised when something goes wrong.

Well I have several times. IF you don't believe it Gopher had that too in his playthrough (youtube) of Richard.

Yes, I make it a habit so that I’ll never lose more than a half hour or so of play. And if you can reasonably restore a save you should. But there’s a tendency on this forum to hype the risks of everything anybody does.

This is s perfect example: No, resurrecting Belethor did not break her game beyond repair.

What you've run into is a known bug fixed the the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch. Ysolda isn't supposed to take over Belethor's shop if he dies, she's supposed to take over the Bannered Mare. If she does take over Belethor's shop, she'll never sell things to you because she wasn't intended to run his store.

As for using resurrect on named npcs. The game will still consider them 'dead' if you don't resurrect them within a few seconds of them dying. This could potentially create issues, but I've never done this myself so I don't know what could happen. I think all that would happen is the game world around the character will still act like that character is dead, even though they're still alive and following their schedule.

Yeah, First time I had it with the companions. Pretty pathetic. But the first thieves guild quest can be completed brawling with a female also, and that’s not random

I already have the USP. And Ysolda HAS taken over Belethor's Shop. And she DID sell me stuff that Belethor had in his stock. It listed "Ysolda's Gold" in the Buy/Sell menu, not "Belethor's Gold". But now Belethor is there as well. I'll have to see whether she leaves the shop and lets him have it back.

"Oh, Belethor...you're alive again. Well this is awkward..."

Belethor WIIL NOT take over the shop again - as far as the game is concerned, he is dead. Death script has been run and nothing can change that. Despite what others may say, once the death script has been run, it is baked into the save, and NOTHING can undo that. For more - and accurate and true - information, see:
Regarding Use of Console Commands
https://steamcommunity.com/app/489830/discussions/0/1741094390481488350/

From above linked discussion:
"Resurrect is among commands that has been classed as dangerous and should not be used in a game. It is a developer test command and should be treated as such. If you already made a mistake of using that command, then load a save before that." - Ilja

You should just go back to a save made before you used that command, in order to avoid any potential further problems.
