Is Primaris a sub-faction with Space Marines - or is it a separate faction?

Please enlighten me; I may buy if it is a sub-faction of Space Marines. Thanks in advance!

Its part of the Space Marines from what i read in another thread not a separate faction. So far though i see no trace of the Primaris DLC in my game not even seeing new units in the tech tree. Going to try one more time otherwise i will be reinstalling the game to see what happens. The DLC is there with my other DLC and activated but there is nothing in the game telling me its there.

Welcome. I just tried turning off the DLC and turning it back on which seemed to do something as if downloading a file to possibly activate the DLC so i will see if that was all i needed to do to the Primaris units show up ingame.

Please keep me updated, my friend. I will likely buy if this is a sub-faction of Space Marines. I've always felt the Space Marines roster was a bit lacking in the heavy hitter department, and perhaps this will address that dissatisfaction.

It's part of the main Space Marine faction, they're just 8 additional units for the faction. You can deploy firstborn and primaris together.

Awesome. I assume "firstborn" refers to the original Space Marines? I am not too versed on 40k lore.

Yeah, all original space marine units are "firstborn" (basically, any space marine made before the primaris showed up and who haven't become primaris space marines themselves) So like tactical squads, devastator squads, etc. The guys that Gladius had before the DLC. Primaris space marine armies still use some of the old vehicles, (like rhinos and predators) but they tend to use the new vehicles as their standard, like the hover tank and bigger dreadnought you'll see.
