They are -not- ultramarines.
They are an, as of yet, unnamed chapter. (And likely never will be).
I approve.
If you find anything in the literature about them, please share with us.
In the game they are just not named. Play them as the successor of your favourite chapter :)
This is correct.
Many new chapters were off-shoots of the Ultramarines because they had the lowest mutation rates... Just sayin'
It's because the Ultramarines got sidetracked from the Siege of Terra and came out the other side of teh Horus Herasy with the largest number of remaining troops. So the Legions got broken down to chapters there were more Ultramarine successors, and there gene-seed has continued to make up a large amount of the total Space Marine gene-seed availalbe.
Yes, I know, also their geneseed was deemed to have the highest purity according to the Adeptus Mechanicus...
No. We still need Chaos Daemons and other factions. Space Marines feature too much in the lore and games, so other factions need some love.
Edit: oh and let's not forget the dialog pieces mention the Ultramarine's Primarch as well. If they WANTED to go with a nobody chapter, DON'T USE ♥♥♥♥ that makes them standout as an already established chapter, look at what the Blood Ravens did, nobody knew about them until Dawn of War brought them into the canon.
