i love people that defend bad design just because they like the game
I can't blame you because the game doesn't directly tell you.
But if you select a unit and right click and drag and -hold-, the game will tell you if you can attack with that selected unit.
There will be a red hexagon if it can. Nothing if it can't.
Also it would help if your next post was something like:
"Hey guys, my unit was in range but for some reason it moved prior to firing. Can you please tell me why this happened? Thanks!"

It does do that. Also Ulzgoroth is right, it show you multiple different ways.
