3) hero or 2nd core (depending if you want to add lord, my reccomandation is yes)

---> rapid rise your spyder to found 2nd city asap. make sure you have enough energy to make it right away, slow down early unit production if you need to.
Any attack you make will work better with a Destroyer Lord involved, and with his speed and melee power, he can eliminate the most dangerous enemy forces before they can do much to you. Once you can gear him up with the Dusk Blade, Mourning Blade, and Axe, it'll take focused fire from most of an army to bring him down because he'll just heal up every time he attacks something.
Second building is either a summoning core or hypostyle temple. Depending on whether I want to go infantry or vehicles only.
I´ve beaten Ultra hard with both builds. The key here, as some other posters have mentioned, is to never stop producing your units be it a warrior squad or an annihilation barge.
Manage your ore, don´t get your units killed, play defensively until you have enough spare resources and squads to go all Leroy Jenkins on AI.
4 city. Rush tech to fast obelisk and basically just build a wall of Obelisk to finish the quest
