Tau army composition?
With the Tau (eventually) coming to Gladius, what units do you all think will be shown?

Fire Warriors for basic ranged units, with some Kroot as melee, like in DoW. I also hope to see a XV88 Broadside.

As for heroes, Shas'O for a start and a low ranked Ethereal as a support (possibly?), what would the third one be?

So there is generally 18-20 units per faction currently, so I imagine Tau roster might look something like this:

Regular Infantry (3): Strike Team, Breacher Team, Kroot Carnivores
Fast Infantry (2): Vespid Stingwings, Pathfinder Team (with Tactical Drones)
Heavy Infantry (3): XV104 Riptide Battlesuit or XV95 Ghostkeel Battlesuit, XV8 Crisis Battlesuits, XV88 Broadside Battlesuits
Support Infantry (2): Kroot Shaper, Firesight Marksman (with Sniper Drones)
Fast Vehicle (2): TX Piranhas, TY7 Devilfish (transport)
Heavy Vehicle (2): TX7 Hammerhead Gunship, TX78 Sky Ray Gunship
Super Heavy (1): KV128 Stormsurge
Flyers (2): AX3 Razorshark Strike Fighter, AX39 Sun Shark Bomber
Heroes (3): Cadre Fireblade, Commander in Battlesuit, Ethereal
Fortifications (0-3): Tidewall Gunrig or/and Tidewall Droneport or/and Tidewall Shieldline

This list puts Tau at 20-23 units (depending on how many, if any, fortifications they get).

I think Tau will actually have the ability to convert enemy units with a hero, probably infantry only, like the Enslave ability, could be the Ethereal.
Razorshark and Orca for air most likely
Hammerhead tank
Stealth suits
Drones
Riptide
Krootox rider hopefully gets put in there somewhere.

I expect pure T'au, no auxiliaries unless the devs choose not to follow lore. If they do have auxiliaries then I would hope to see some Gue'Vesa. That would be neat.

Here's what all is possible:

The list is kinda old. I guess there is more possible now. Especially if they put some new Tau units in. They also put 8th Edition units of Chaos in the game so this could also be the case with Tau.

I know basically nothing about Warhammer 40k lore but the achievements show Fire Warrior, Commander and Battle Suits. If that makes any sense to you.

Edit: Also something about installing support systems.

That would be awesome to see, would like to see these units make it in the game:

Tau XV109 Y'vahra Battlesuit
KV128 Stormsurge
Tau Sniper unit with drones
as air transport we will probably see Orcas, if not, the next one would be a Manta.Missle-Destroyer ... and these things are ... well... the tabletop model costs around 1,2k so go figure.
Riptides are a given, they are an iconic unit as well as the xv8. A Stormsurge is not that out of question if you think about it, Astra Militarum has Baneblades, so Lord of War: Check.
as Heroes I expect:
Commander in XV85 Enforcer (if they bring the Coldstar I never play any other faction again), Or they do it like DoW and use a variant of the XV22.
Ethereal (with Hoverdrone as upgrade ?)
Cadre Fireblade (<- The support)
Standart Transport will be a Devilfish.
The Devilfish would be a good ase for the other Tanks, such as Hammerheads and Skyrays (AntiAir).
If they bring Hammerheads the Broadsides are in a tight spot (or the other way around) scince they kinda do the same thing ... carry a big AP weapon and shot stuff from range.
as scout and fast attack we'll see Piranhas or Tetras.
What do you guys think ?

For the love of the Greater Good, yes!

Couldn't they give the Broadside a siege/defense role? In DoW their strongest weaponry required them to "root", that could make them a bit different: Hammerhead is mobile but Broadside is stronger after "rooting".

Although I don't know if that's canonical...

well, the root ability from the broadside is not canon, but i just rememberd that you can fit the broadside with high-yield-misslepods, dunno what role that would fit but there you go.
But: The Stormsurge can root (resulting in being able to fire every of his metric ton of weapons twice per round).

Responding to a few different things here, I think the T'au army composition will be very good compared to most armies. For troops and scouts they can have Pathfinders with numerous upgrades with rail rifles and ion rifles being a few, markerlights of course to illuminate targets and give line of sight boost. Fire team strike squads and breacher squads will be included as well I'm sure.

The Braodside used to have to stabilize itself because the heavy rail rifles were on its shoulders, now they carry them in their arms, the only unit that might need to anchor itself will be the Stormsurge. Transports will be Devilfish and fast attack could be Tetras, I would like to see Razorsharks for the fighter planes. If they include riptides its going to be a great day! I really want to see Ghostkeels as well along with stealth suits and of course the iconic Crisis suit.

Honestly there are so many options, I would love to have Vespids and Kroot in as auxillaries are a T'au thing and make them even more unique, Skyrays and Hammerheads would be most welcome as well. I wonder if they will do the split tech trees for Kauyon and Mont'ka? I'm super excited!

The broadside is a heavy support and anti armour unit, slow but packing serious fire power. The Heavy Rail Rifles would be able to punch through enemy mechanized units, and the High Yield Missile Pods could be either city siege or anti elites.

On a related note, what could "install 20 support systems" achievement alude to?

Despite Tau being my favorite faction, my knowledge is limited... 😅

In tabletop tau battlesuits have hardpoints. Some were for weapons while others were for shield generators, scanners, targetters, etc. So probably squads will be able to specialize a bit like Chaos marks. Research support systems then install one type on a squad.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
