PDX level of DLCs
It's great with all of these 30 PLN dlcs. That add like 5 units or so.
I see that Gladius devs are chasing Paradox right now.
You do you guys, but this wont make your PR image good, to say absolute the least.

Gladius is an old game and the DLC has supported it's continued development and growth.

You do not need any DLC to enjoy the base game, with 4 factions included, which is exactly how it was on release before the game got years of extra development. We feel we offer good value with our DLC's, which include entire factions or sets of extra units.

We're not doing "Horse armour" type DLCs... and we hope you agree.
Those "unit packs" are the equivalence of horse armor.

No they are not. Horse armor was just a few cosmetic textures for a boring part of the game, horses, that no one really uses.

The core game is a complete game package that is fun and works.

The developers simply spent extra time developing additional content for the game and then charged for that work time.

This isn't them making a game and then carving out part sto add later; its them making more content so long as people keep buying content. Which is exactly what Paradox does; if the game keeps selling they keep making more content.

In the end it means that customers often end up with a bigger game with far more content than they'd otherwise get from a single game purchase; especially for games developed by smaller studios who have far less resources and cash to invest into the initial game development.

You're getting a few units at a premium cost, if you don't own the subsequent factions you get even less value from these packs. These kinds of packs are typically free additions to strategy games..
I can understand charging for factions as it adds value to the base game, but a few units? lol.. that cost close to as much as a faction? yeee...

Lets not forget they're charging money for wallpapers.. I'll take horse armor dlc plx

Making new units, and balancing the game around the needs for new units, creating new mechanics, updating the engine, mod support, etc, is not easy. Especially when those units need to be licenced from Games Workshop, since this game is a licenced game, you know....

In the end, the cost is extremely low. I paid 5.51 euros today. 5.51. After 6 months since the last DLC. That is NOTHING. Seriously what is wrong with people? I understand that you can buy entire games on sale for that money, for example i bought Fallout New Vegas Complete with just a euro or two more, but come on.... Gladius is a niche game, it hasn't sold tens of millions of copies for top console money in order to have recuperated the costs.

In the end, i don't mind paying that little amount to get continued support for this game. It is a voluntary exchange, no one forced me into it. I don't understand why people keep complaining about it.

Well for those who just need new units it is a good DLC. It proably a lot more time to do it yourself and my freetime is more valuable than those (what is it?) six bucks.

Unfortunately:
I rather would spend a couple of bucks more with extra content that improves the game. For example a preview of the map before starting the game. New units that are overpowered and just replaces existing units is not an improvement.
So I stick with 1.10.1 and all DLC up to the Escalation Pack.
ArchAnge1LT May 25, 2023 @ 2:04pm
I would like them to continue with this. Such unit packs are cool.

The game is already licenced.. the only cost would be to renew that license if it's still making you money... why do you think the game is free now? To milk the ~70$ worth of mtx for the wave of people getting the game for free. $4 vs $10-25 from a free owner of the game getting extra mtx.. or those few who get the whole enchilada for ~65? Cause you know people want everything even if they don't consume it all. I would of hoped we would get an entire expansion that does everything you say.. creating new mechanics, updating their engine/netcode, further mod support, story, voices, localization etc.

The cost is not extremely low.. $6 on steam will gain you a full game worthy of dozens.. or hundreds of hours of content to consume. While Gladius is a niche genre... it still lives off of fans, and those who enjoy this genre.

You really can't blame devs (Proxy Studios) on this because licencing stuff is publisher job (Slitherine), and this licencing issue is really strict because obviously Warhammer 40,000 is Games Workshop IP, and they are really known about it.
Devs already explained in the past that units and factions can't be freely added because of IP licencing. Do you really think that GW is going to allow adding their IP for free on released product? If you really think I have bridge on Danube to sell you.

This is what "supporter packs" are meant for.. and often people purchase to support devs (like deep rock galactic for example) not wallpapers... that you can get for free... on google.

About the wallpapers:
That is not horse armor. Yeah, it's charging a miniscule amount for wallpapers that are of no interest to most players. However, they are not part of the game, and so noone will feel like they are missing out on anything.

About the DLC practice:
Drako110, claiming the DLC has half the units it actually has to make it seem worse, makes your claim ring of insincere hyperbole.

It is worth pointing out that there was a free update with new units and stuff at the same time; that makes their PR image pretty good in my eyes.

Anyone can check for themselves what these DLCs have in them.

On top of that
Here's the DLC with 5 units:

So maybe you do your research first next time, before insinuating someone else's insincerity.

"that you can get for free... on google. "

This is а piracy. Еfforts , imagination and skill went into making these wallpapers and they belong to the company. I checked your profile and you are a community manager?
I bet you have the most toxic community ever

say what you want about paradox, but i really do hope these devs keep this game alive as long as EU4 has been.

sure the dlc creep is real, but they slowly evolve the game into a behemoth with no real competition

i will happily give them my money to keep releasing stuff for this game and not cutting development to work on something else. or at minimum i want them to see how profitable warhammer titles can be so that hopefully they make more.

opinions of dlc aside, my question is, do you need the dlc to get any of the achievements? do they add new achievements when they add dlc? (like payday2)
