where i must question why he want to mass them. ah few to support the frontline tanks are ok, but there dmg isnt so good that i woud want to mass them. there the hydra woud be a better early goal. and there max range of 6 can be a hinrance on top. even when they dmg a unit they dont get exp when they are more than 3 tiles away, and when you manouver to that range (3) , you dont need a flimsy armoured mobile arti. it dosnt help as well that they best shoot as your first unit when it comes to enemy multimodel units.
Yes i want to mass them. I just play vs AI and its just my taste to have lots of Arty because i like it. For me nothing is more immersive than having lots of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ infantry rushing the enemy and lots of Arty shooting like crazy, i know the Imperator will be proud of me!
So imo Basilisks come in very handy the earlier the better. Especially against low tier enemies in the beginning, they are super useful and you can safely shoot the bases of the enemy.
So i try to optimize my research and production lines as fast as possible to reach the Basilisk. At the moment i build 2 barracks in my first city, very quickly the Tech Priests to get the 2nd one + the loyality building.
My Master Plan is to combine them later with 3 x Bullgryns + 1 Lord Commissar in a Chimera. The Guardsmen are there as meatshields, i use the Basilisk to weaken the enemy lines, then rush in with the Chimera, unload the Bullgryns, use the special ability of my glorious Kommissar to destroy the eneym base within 2 rounds, pack them in again and drive away. Lost Guardsmen can be replaced meanwhile and getting to the front with a 2nd Chimera. Tech Priest are healing the Basilisks.
Maybe you have a better idea how to achieve this even faster?
On that note, I am a dirty tyranid fodder gaunt type, and no nothing of the strategy of man - only how taste
I don't understand how this would counter wanting to get early basilisks, care to explain?
so as long we dont speak about ultrafast game speed and ulimited start resources with max loyalty bonus for the player, fast expanding hinders completed basilisks before his named turn.
Cities are VERY powerful and negative loyalty for small cities is not too bad. Just the level 1 Astra city (without tiles bonus) will give you 33 resources per turn, is very hard to be wrong going library building first into getting a second city ASAP.
Without doing anything crazy getting basilisk tech by turn 35 should not be a problem (standard pace, having 0% research tiles, just 1 library and 1 research outpost and 2 manufactorum and a fast second city), the problem is getting enough food and ore at the same time. Getting lots of infantry and vehicles can become quite challenging unless they both share the same resources upkeep.
Thanks for the input! Yes i create a 2nd city asap and its possible to reach the Tech for the Basilisk quite fast if you are in a lucky start position. The problem is you also need Manufactori and ofc the Tech Priest building before. Never used the library though, will try that!
