Starting location select.
I play lots of single player, and I'm very picky about how I start. I like to be in a corner with okay resources. Only problem is I have to make a new game many times to get kind of start. Often the game wants to put me on the middle edges. I don't think there is a mod to choose starting locations, and the game does not have the option. If people want to use such an option perhaps there should be one built into the game, or at least allow modders to make one. Please include the option to select starting locations. Thanks.

I agree its weird that this is not an option.

Its probably because there's no FIXED starting locations in Gladius and in case you know how many players can be in one match which I believe is sixteen in total, the map may or may not have the size necessary to have all of these players be in more ideal locations outside of modding.

Ctrl +D, open the debug panel, terraform your side of the map and it will be good.

they are not even able to make decent routines for setting eldar gateways (look at how much of them are directly near a big cliff or a big mass of water, denying them 1/3 of there possible city tiles) and than you exept an extra script for fair start points? not to mentation not everyone sees the same as favourable for there start location.

Had one today where the gate was on a snaking peninsula 2-3 tiles wide.

Utterly useless for building a base, but easy to defend and it did give me some mobility much later in the game.

I just see the placement as an extra challenge . Also I explore towards the closest corner in that case.

Also I set land mass to high because water can be annoying

I'm new to the game--how many individual cities do you tend to end up with?

Depends on the faction. With Tyranids and Chaos I always have four. With Necrons three. And of course Space Marines just one ;). Astra Mil I usually have to go for five.

You technically can have unlimited amount of cities so long as you have the resources to spend on establishing them and the loyality to maintain them all (which is something that goes against the core aspect of civilization style games) you want to have as many cities as possible that way you have more production capabilities and to gather more resources, the A.I will literally do that against you so to limit your own cities just seems counter-productive.
Edit: Space Marines only having the one Fortress City, I'm still not so sure why that's a thing other than maybe balance reasons... which then falter given all the other factions minus Necrons and Eldar either have an unlimited amount they can establish or in the case of Necrons and Eldar have a limited amount based on the amount of tiles that have either Necron Tombs or Webway gates.

It's usually best to stay on 3 for most factions but some can do fine with 4. It's overkill to go for more and the loyalty penalty is likely going to cost you more than you are really gaining.

just imagine you want to offset the loyalty penalty of 3 cities: that's a total of 6 loyalty buildings you have to invest in, spread around your cities. Now do 5: that's 20 buildings you have to invest in just to negate the penalties.

You could see that as having 2 more cities that need to produce 7 buildings each just to catch up in term of loyalty (which in a lategame eco build you will have to do).

That's what? At least 40ish turns before they start to add anything to your eco? And that's not counting the price of founding a 4th and 5th city, which is steep.

Unless you are planning to drag a match for 200+ turns 3 cities will serve you best.

Yet the A.I will always expand their cities all over the map, the game's still an RTS and map control is the bread and butter for RTS games, the more bases you have, the more resources and production you have and that's going to be how the A.I works, you can even watch them and they'll be doing that all the time.

The AI gets bonus loyalty through difficulty selection, their eco does not work the way yours does.

The AI also suicides units and uses skills totally at random but you won't tell me "that's how it's done" right?

> the more bases you have, the more resources and production you have

Eventually, in a hypotethically infinite length game, sure. But games only last so long and you have to consider how long will it take for your investments to pay for themselves and what else could you have achieved with those resources instead.
