Ideas for a potential Chaos Demons faction
So, i have been thinking, my most desired faction currently is Chaos Demons, but what would that faction be if we ended up getting it? I have not played the tabletop but i have read about the lore of 40k a little and i like the idea of having the Warp Creatures in the game. I mean, the Warp is a very significant factor of 40K, i don't see why Chaos Demons aren't more desired. In any case, i have not thought about it extensively, but i would like to start a discussion about what a possible Chaos Demons faction could end up being. So i am going to offer some food for thought and see where it leads to.

1) I think Chaos Demons shouldn't be building cities in the traditional sense. Instead they should arrive in Gladius from the Warp, perhaps a small Warp Rift that is represented as a single city tile that can be empowered (expanded) in other tiles. So they should be a single city faction, like the Space Marines.

2) As for resources, i think that aside from research and influence, they should combine all other resources into one: Warp Energy. Population should become "Warp Rift Strength"

3) They shouldn't be building traditional buildings either. Instead, each tile slot should be dedicated to 1 of the 4 Chaos Gods as his domain. Each Chaos God slot/domain should offer different amounts of resources and pop capacity depending on the God, for example Tzeentch should offer higher research while Nurgle more Warp Energy, Slaanesh more Influence and Khorne faster unit production. Alternatively you could just acquire each tile for a specific Chaos God and just "build" in its slots by empowering it, paying to upgrade it, essentially, up to the number of max slots.

4) As for unit production buildings, they shouldn't have any built in tiles. Instead, they should have 4 "unit producing buildings" unlocked from the start, each one for a specific Chaos God. At first, all shouldn't have any unit unlocked, you should research each unit, and it should be "produced" at its specific Chaos God "building" capacity. This way we could demons that are Chaos God specific and simply make each one according to each God's producing capacity. At first producing capacity should be low for all Gods, but it should become better with each tile and tile upgrade you get for a specific God.

5) Loyalty should be acquired by non traditional ways. Those are demons, they are only loyal to displays of force. So, they should have their city loyalty function somewhat like Orks' WAAAGH. It should be variable. You should be gaining loyalty buff by killing units, and a loyalty penalty by losing units. You should also be gaining a loyalty bonus by capturing outposts and building Demonic Altars next to them, similar to Fortresses of Redemption. Each tile upgrade should also offer a minor loyalty buff depending on the Chaos God.

6) Each Chaos God should have his own T10 Greater Demon to unlock and build, but you should only have a max of one in the game at any one time. For example Nurgle should be able to built the Great Unclean One, or Slaanesh the Keeper of Secrets.

Since i found this old thread again, and is still relevant, i am going to bump it again for discussion.

Having looked since then into the Chaos Daemon roster, i believe it should be a hybrid army and not dedicated to just one God. There are lots of cool units of all tiers to choose from for the unit roster.
This is an excellent concept!

Well, it IS a nice concept. Sounds quite creative in it's usage of 'buildings' with the whole tile dedication system. Ast those are merely the basic 'buildings' ... I guess you could build more advanced ones in the correspondings slots - e.g. gardens for Nurgle - upgrades, so to speak.

However, I'm not sure if the developers will want to tackle such a drastically different approach - it would likely quite significant adjustments for the AI.

Which is why ... they might well choose to take a different approach - a perfect excuse for me to recycle MY old thread about the Cultist-to-Daemon ratio question. ;)
Basically my position is:
Chaos Daemons as a faction have quite a lot of options. The more exotic, the more purely daemonic they could be while the more pragmatic could well make use of cultists. Longer version:
