Essential DLC??
Ok, nearly bought this various times but there was some sort of graphics issue in the past that put me off...

Taking the plunge, hope it works.

What DLC would players consider essential in getting as well? WIll buy them as soon as I can verify game working.

Thanks!

The unit packs are mostly pointless. Less than half the added stuff has any significance, although a few genuinely add to their factions, so if you might want to pick them up at some point anyways.
All the race packs are good and the order is basically up to you, depending on which faction looks and sounds most interesting. How fun their playstyles are is purely subjective.
I agree with the linked thread in "screw the Lord of Skulls". It's a kinda neat idea (neutral endgame unit) badly implemented and adding nothing interesting to the game.

Ok, I think I found my initial list.

Anyone wanna expand on it?

Thanks!

Personally i think that with the current discount it makes no sense to not just buy the complete package. You won't save too much by leaving some DLCs out.

Also, i completely disagree with RindFisch. I found all unit packs to have much fun and important units, and wouldn't play without them now. Sure, some of the units are more impressive than others, but every DLC unit has a role to play, and it allows more creativity in your strategies.

Also, i just love the Lord of Skulls. It adds a random element in the game, and it is much fun annihilating him. But i suppose it is a matter of taste.

Faction DLC would be priority since they add the most to the game and naturally if there's a faction you like most, you would want to own it.

Unit DLC I'd buy all together since combined they add 25 new units/fortifications and they fill in some needed roles that DLC factions received by default.

Lord of Skulls DLC is unnecessary.

I'd recommend just buying the complete package and receive the full game though.

I mainly only play with the Astra Militarum and I can't imagine them without the Chimera. Such a workhorse. If you plan on playing as them, I would consider the Assault Pack essential.

I don't hope you follow this advice? But since you marked it as answer I expect/suspect a yes.

If you buy a faction you should also buy the earlier unit packs. Otherwise your new faction has a (much) larger unit roster to choose from. For example you buy the base game/factions and eldar. The base game will lack so many units that I can't imagine it will be fun.

Although I agree not all units in the unit packs are that usefull/balanced* in most cases they do add something.

*Heaven for if you can make modifications to the game
