Is Gladius a 4X game?
Based on the direction the game is going and what is said in the games discord it appears the game is moving towards not only a 1x game, but is being balanced towards a RTS style "rush" game. I hope that this isn't the direction the game continues to move towards.

To be fair at this point it is becoming a turn based RTS, I wish that they could find a different way to make the PVP's happy and also give good content for the more 4x players, even if all that would just be more ways to wage war better. Roads, entrenchment, old forts, etc. That just isn't what the people in the developer's ear want. They are pushing for faster PVP. Is what it is and for me it sucks.

So much bitterness and so much slander toward an undefined "pvp crowd". are we still bitter about banshees model count?

Not a single person ever said to you "we don't want entrenchments because that would conflict our rush pvp style (??)", last time you were asked to describe what your idea entails you had no idea how you would even want it implemented.

Are you guys speaking a different language or does the term "turn-based RTS" make absolutely no sense?

Maybe "turned-based war game" is the term you're looking for? In that case, I think it's quite obvious that this is, in fact, a turn based war game. Which is the reason I purchased this instead of a city or econ builder such as Civilization.

They mean a turn based strategy game that mimics many of the conventions of stereotypical RTS games. It's a good way to describe Gladius. Many of the game mechanics - the economy, tech tree, interplay of different unit types, emphasis on battlefield tactics, etc. - have more in common with Starcraft than Civilization. Gladius is a lot like what you would get if you took Starcraft and said, "What if we made it turn based? And also converted it to Warhammer 40k lore"

Gladius is not a wargame, that's a term with a very different meaning.[en.wikipedia.org] For example, this is a wargame - it usually describes very complex turn based games with an emphasis on realism and detailed simulation. Lots of fidgety rules, logistics is usually a big part of them. Almost always historical. Has its origins in tabletop games played by real military officers for training, or even for theorycrafting tactics for real upcoming battles.
