How does accuracy and damage work?
Accuracy has two stats. There is a number and then a percentage. What does the number mean? How do damage calculations overall work? I m having a hard time understanding how much damae units end up doing.

Accuracy is your chance to hit with each shot. Higher accuracy means more hits. Then you inflict the damage, reduced by ~8% for each armour point. Armour penetration points cancel out armour points. A single hit can only kill a single entity so a super powerful weapon against a guardsmean squad can only kill one guardsman each time it shoots. On top of this there are a range of special abilities and buffs / penalty shown on the tooptips.

Thanks a ton! Im sure this will be benifical to lots of players. When looking at accuracy I imagine the percentage is the likelyhood of an attack hitting correct? What is the number in front of that and how does it play into calculations? I have seen it listed as a 6,10, and 12 before but didnt know what to make of it.

I was playing as space marines and attacking with a predator tank. It has one weapon with a damage value of 8 by default. It has an accuracy of 10(83%). I used this unit to attack imperial guard and was consistantly doing 1 or less than 1 damage to that unit. Im not sure why.
Bump

A good bump. The intricacies of how combat works have certainly led to some confusion.

A huge tank that does a lot of damage in a single shot is great against another big single entity. It is terrible against a unit of guardsmen or Necron warriors. I think many people think having more damage and armor pentration always makes a unit more effective in all situations, and that is not the case.

Unless the tank has Large Blast. Ah, lovely lovely Leman Russes!

[edit] Hmm, I retract that. They will do massive damage, but still only to one entity I believe. Going to have to look closer at it.

This necro post was a 'lightbulb' read for me! Now I understand why some heavy units weren't doing as much damage as expected. 1 Heavy unit with a single shot firing at a single squad of say 5 marines can only kill a maximum of one trooper, no matter how high the damage was. The strategy and considerations just got a little deeper for me. :)

I also did not realize that only one entity can be killed per attack.

Now I understand why my Space Marine Fortress does OK against scout sentinels but poorly against guardsmen.

I guess the little guys can spread out so the cannon's operataor cannot focus on all of them at the same time. The best he can do is to sight on and pick one poor little dude to hit.
