Astra Militarum City Icon
This has been bugging me for some time now: can someone tell me what the icon of the Astra Militarum cities is supposed to be? It seems to be a squiggly line a cultist would paint on top of his wall

That is a good question. I don't know either.

I made a quick research, and my first idea was correct : It's the symbol of the Adeptus Administratum. (Technically PART of it) :

So it imperial bureaucracy. Would prefered the Aquila or other imperial symbols but this also makes sense, since the HQ is described as an giant bureaucracy building. Thanks for the research!

Thanks! It makes sense now: Gothic "a" for Administratum :)

Would never have guessed: thought these guys are Imperial Guard - they are sitting at the same level as Space Marines (Or the fleet) below Administratum. so Space Marine faction cities should also carry the same symbol? :)

Agree: the Imperial aquila is usually used of IG but the attached image would also have worked a bit better where the gothic "a" is embedded within the Imperial "I"

The headquarters is called "Basilica Administratum".

But they are cities and there are multiple of them on the same planet

I don't understand what you mean.
The icon strictly refers to the Basilica Administratum (the headquarters unit/building), not the city.

Cities have a name.

True, the icon is assigned directly to the Basilikum and inherited to the entire city from there which makes sense as when contacting the city it would actually be the Basilikum. Still the above linked image would have been cooler and avoid a lot of head-scratching for those like me who are not that familiar with Imperial insignias :)

I assume the "a" inside would have been too small and the icon wouldn't have looked very good?
