Is this game like Civilization?
I saw some screenshots of this game on its store page and it looked to me like Civilization 5, but with a Warhammer 40k skin. I was wondering if anyone who's actually played it could tell me whether it is, or if gameplay is completely different from Civ?

If it is different then what is the game like? I'm trying to decide whether to get it or not.

the gameplay is completely different, even if the game LOOKS like civilization on a first glance.

you dont have diplomacy, you dont have indepth research, social policies etc. etc.
... in tradeoff you have MUCH, MUCH, MUCH deeper combat than civilization. i.e. the units have many different stats, weapons and abililities etc.and you ll be waging war all the time.

basically gladius has far more in common with panzer general / panzer corps like games than it does with civilization. but unlike the panzer general games, this game has "base building", so you dont start a map with an entire army.

basically as weird as it sounds this game is like a mix of Dawn of War with Panzer General. I love it, your mileage might vary but you should definitly avoid taking anyone serious who claims this game is like civilization or endless legend.

It is more like a wargame. The focus is on combat. Don't expect diplomacy or trading. Each faction has their own techtree, units and unique abilities and there is a lot. Factions are more diverse and interesting. I played a lot of Civ V and it is quite different. If you are a warmonger you will like it. There are also some things different like a moral system and seperated building queues for units and how much you can build on each tile of a city. Some factions even use different ressources to built.

yes it only looks like civ. This game is more like a world war game. You always at war and try to defeat the enemy with a lot better combat then civ.

As others have said, it looks a lot like Civ but it is a very different game. The most important is that each faction really is unique and this requires you to think carefully about how you will play with them. Orks don't play like Space Marines for example, nor do Necrons play like the Tyrannids (if you get the DLC).

What IS similar is that it has 1UPT but unlike Civ 5 or 6, the AI is up to the task of managing it and it will give you a good run for your money until you become familiar with how to play each faction well but that might take quite some time.

No Diplomacy at all. You can set the game up so that you are teamed with another faction but otherwise, they're your enemy and must be destroyed.

And unlike Civ, the "barbarians" are really, really nasty in this game. You really need to take the seriously. If you set the wildlife setting to High, you'll be in for a very tough start.

This is IMO a really good wargame. It's not a civ builder although you will be doing research to get new units, abilities and new buildings for your cities.

This is so true. Scouting ahead and preparing for engagements is really important. Running into a group of Kasttellan robots can ruin you day lol
