You gotta understand your enemy – and one more reason to invest in scouting units. Against the Guard you have to act quickly or plan for an attrition war where you keep disrupting their economy.
Well yes "if" you can reach the AM if the AM is surrounded on the other side of the map then you will never reach them soon enough...
But worse early on AM isnt even that weak... their very early units can't win 1vs1 but they have enough hp to tank for 2-3 hit just enough to replace it, same for heavy weapons squad not as powerfull as devastator but way cheaper and for its price very powerfull... except the base guards no AM are really weak...sentinels arrive fast and can tank a lot compared to other first vehicules...and basilisk break game literaly, but let say you are like me and don't like to cheese all game by spamming basilisjk around turn 40-50 and destroy everything by just suiciding a guards squad from time to time and blasting the whole map from 6 hex away...
So you use hydra and leman russ and see that it can 1vs1 anything and even heavier stuff struggle to kill them (Russ being able to tank 3 monolit full attack pattern...) compared to predator and otehr same tech unit.
For me Or AM hit too hard or it tank too much...if those units were costly to build or maintain why not bu its not the case...
At a minimum you need to take Hunter Killer missiles from Sentinels, they're walkers and Space Marine Dreadnaughts are also walkers and they don't get them.
Maybe a small increase in upkeep costs to put a small brake on their late game spam.
Its also not as if their early units are bad. Guardsmen aren't very good but they are cheap and with medpacks and grenades they can do some damage or serve as cannon fodder. Hydras are available early with Basilisks and Lemon Russ not far behind.
It's fair enough, if their late game power doesn't come on too fast.
Problem is that AM can already rolfstomp mid game. they are only weak until they begin to roll basilisk and leman russ which is turn 40-50 so you barely crossed the map and AM si out gunning and out ranging your entire army units...
Granted, basilisks and leman russ should be good, but they shouldn't be all that is needed.
I'd like for air to be featured a bit more, for example.
