What is the criteria for 'naming' units?
As stated in the subject. It seems pretty random. Sometimes it happens when they hit lvl 2, sometimes they get to 10 without getting a name.

5% chance on each level up.

Ok, thank you. Not the most important thing in game, but i was insanely curious.

Rok I assume you already know, but Imperial Guard do sometimes get 'Defender of Cadia'. This does kinda does not fit with the lore anymore, as Cadia fell. I think this was already pointed out in another post. Furthermore, I've love to see a few more randomly generated names add into the pool

I'm not up on the lore these days but i did notice some Guard units saying for Cadia and Creed as a victory shout.

That being said, yes a larger name pool would be nice. In my last game i wound up with like 8 "Laurels Imperialis"

You can rename everyone yourself manually. I use this for orcs, as their icons sometimes are too similar. Naming key units is better ;]

I do that sometimes too, just for consistency, or if i don't like the name they've gotten. Venerated Veterans gets old sometimes. Especially since i had like ten of them in my last playthrough too. Or when a gunship gets Crux Terminatus. ;)

Sometimes i name them for something they did in game...like the incredibly lucky single guardsmen unit that took down a devil by itself, i named them Devil's Bane

there is also no character limit on naming you can have units and cities with names they go off the map in either direction its insane and really trolly lol i love it

Defender can be past tense.
