How do I increase Influence in general?
And especially for Space Marines? This was a major bottleneck in my first few games as SM.

As Space Marines, the Tower of Redemption we can drop not only grabs the resources off the outpost (so.. +2 influence for example), it will grab the percentage off it as well and send that back to the city (so any building producing influence gets 20%). Point being, if you place the tower down next to the "+2 / +20% influence" outpost, that adds up heavily throughout the game.

Got it; thanks!

Edit: The towers, by the way, have extremely low HPs. How do you hold them? Put several units near them? Or put several towers together in a ring?

Killing enemies near towers will grant them XP, they get the same boni as other units from leveling up.

They can be squishy. I tend to put them up to help block wildlife, and just get the bonuses from the outposts. So I put them close to my city (I do not often use them as forward bases - though it's possible in some cases). Typically, wildlife won't take them down.

I'm pretty sure multiple towers do not get the +percent of an outpost, only the first gets that (multiple still get +2), so multiple towers around one outpost is not always efficient, as the 3 upkeep per tower can become a lot to maintain without getting much return.

Holy fug! I didn't realize that the Fortress requires 3 Influence per upkeep!!!

WTF.

Now I know why I am having Influence issues. I spam the Fortresses like crazy...
