How blast work
Hello, i really don't understand how the "blast" trait work. It's write "+1.5 damage by additional member".

I mean, i have 5 marines against 6 neophytes, and i decided to launch 5 grenades.

1.5 grenade damage
x 5 attacks
= 7.5 base damages

+1.5 by additional member, 6 neophytes so there is 5 additional members

7.5 + ( 1.5 x 5 )
= 15 max damages

x 0.87 for accuracy
= 13.05

x 0.67 because neophytes have 4 armor
= 8.7 TOTAL DAMAGES

So why the game make 10.4 damages >.<

If anyone can help me, i will be grateful *-*

https://gladiusrelicsofwar.gamepedia.com/Damage_calculation

Effects like Blast, Large Blast, Template, Mourning Blade of Lazaerek are a special case in how they modify damage. They multiply the capped damage by a certain amount of alive squad members in the target. Alternatively you could say they increase the damage by the health of a certain amount of alive squad members. For example, Blast increases the damage by the health of 1.5 additional squad members. That means the capped damage will be multiplied by 2.5, as long as there are at least 3 alive squad members in the target. If there were only 2 members left in the squad, then Blast would only multiply the capped damage by 2 and if there's only 1 model in the target, Blast would not do any bonus damage.

So 7.5 * .87 *.67 * 2.5 (blast) = 10.92.

Hmm.... Still off from 10.4 Not sure :)

The accuracy is 83%.
7.5 * 0.83 * 0.67 * 2.5 = 10.426875 which is rounded to 10.4

I wrote that wiki article by the way. :P

But... There is 6 neophytes, not 3.
You are correct with the result, and it's cool, but i don't understand the logic behind.

i mean, how can you have *2 with 2 members and *2.5 with 3 members. And beyond so ?
something escapes me.

Doesn't matter. The blast multiplier is hard capped.

If there is 1 enemy, there is no blast multiplier (1).
If there are 2 enemies, blast multiplier is 2.
If there are 3+ enemies, blast multiplier is 2.5.

I see.
I looked the compendium personnaly.
Blast : +1.5 damage by additionnal member
large blast : +3.5 by additionnal member

etc.

The compendium needd a maj ?
no the +1.5 means you add it to the normal multiplier of 1, and that forms the cap for that blast tyupe

so +1.5 = 2.5
+2.5 = 3.5
etc.

so take number of models in the unit to attack, and cap it by the appropriate value there, then that is the damage multiplier.

Aaaaaaaaaah okay !
so finaly, you have the full bonus at 3+ ennemy models, but less at 2 models, and no bonus at 1 model, isn't it ?
Then, the "minor bonus" at 2 models, how can i know it for large blast for example ? :)
The bonus is the same for all blast types (+1 to multiplier for each model in unit above 1), the only difference between them is the cap on the effect. Blast caps at +2.5 models (so 3 models or more for its maximum effect). The others have higher caps. Like Apocalypse Blast scales all the way up to 9 models for a whopping 8.5x damage against a unit with 9 models.

It's perfect, thank you ! :)

maybe if you know how my scarabs with 12 attacks of 1.3 damage, 33% accuracy, and no armor penetration, can deal 7 damages to a imperial bastion, i'm curious to know that to haha.
Gauss effect is really strange, i never know what damage my Necron units can deal with this effect T.T
yes, as far I'm aware, that bonus damage from Gauss effect and others similar to it ignores the target's armor

it might work like after armor mitigation - but before accuracy - it bumps the damage per attack up to the minimum based on HP if it's lower than it

as I just checked, against 34hp (5% = 1.7) bastion scarab deals 6.7 dmg, which is 12 * 1.7 * 0.33 = 6.732

Oh no you're right, the game will take the better option, normal damage OR gauss damage, and Bastion has 35 hp so gauss damage is : 35*0.05 = 1.75 * 12 attacks / 3 precision = 7 damages ! *-*
Yep, and the scarabs have a cap on that effect of 2.4 dmg. So a unit with 2.4/0.05 = 48 hp or greater will achieve the scarab's maximum damage on attack of 9.5. They're particularly good at taking out the requisition towers of SM.

I know this is a super necro, but I can't find this info anywhere, not even on the wiki. How did you know large blast caps at +8.5? The wiki makes it sound like all blast templates are +1.5, and the weapon entries themselves don't state what the caps are.

It's defined in the files as a trait. For example, Data\World\Traits\LargeBlast.xml is coded as additionalMembersHit add="4"
