♥♥♥♥ me why do people seem to think diplomacy is one of the X's in 4X. It's not pmsl. He even said it. eXpand, eXplore, eXploit, eXterminate. Is diplomacy one of those? No. Then why the ♥♥♥♥ is it 3X. A commisar needs to shoot him and everyone else saying that pish.

Does DIPLOMACY have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ X in it? Then it's not detracting a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ X from 4X. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

War is not in there either and we expect that. Neither is resource gathering, technology advances, etc but they are expected because they are implicit with the genre.

Explore, exploit (resource gathering), expand (city building, research), exterminate (war). Clearer?

Diplomacy never worked right in the Civ series anyway, especially in Civ 6. I personally don't miss it. Anyway, the game gives you a good reason for fighting everybody (as SM: the IG are probably corrupted by the chaos storms, kill them! and the other SM are a rogue chapter that shouldn't be here, kill them!), and you can set up teams if you want to.

Even in Total War diplomacy is whacked. It was probably better they didn't include it in the game, and just focused on creating a good game system and making it fun to play. IMHO, the devs were pretty successful on both counts.
I think it was a good call to not have diplomacy since you're able to set whatever teams you want. However, resource sharing needs to be added. This is a staple in all modern team based games that have some element in strategy, whether they're real time or turn based.

War is there as eXterminate and with the wildlife as part of eXplore
Resource gathering is eXploit
City founding and growth is eXpand
Research is between eXploit and eXpand
I'm not sure...

Is there a more pointless debate than this debate?

Good game is good. 'nuff said?

So in conclusion, this game excels by breaking through the artificial barriers that have kept back so many games in the genre until this date :-)
Joe said you are only 3 developers? Well, congrats, that's an insanely good game for so few people working on it.
All in all a good review. I have had exactly 1 bug. Once in awhile a ambull or kroot hound starts the game as one of my units. Other than that its been a fun ride so far.

There is no diplomacy, there is only war. Diplomats start the war, once it has started there is no need for diplomats until it is finished.

I'm an Angry Joe fan and it was bis suprised to me to see Gladius review form him. He usually reviews AAA titles but what's important he doesn't kiss their asses (EA, Ubi etc.). If the game is bad he will say it in great anger.
Review was funny as usual and fair and as mentioned here a good publicity for this title so good job Comissar Joe.
Thought it was a pretty fair review. Hopeful that some of the success leads to more opportunities for the developers. It's been said many times already but the foundation is solid, the core mechanics and features of the game work well together - just needs continual love and content to become what it could be, basically following in the footsteps of DOW1 as I see it.
Never heard of this guy. The review was...interesting but fair. Right now I would give Gladius at least an 8/10 per my extremely stable Slitherene version.
As per voice overs vs text...I have never been a fan of extra noise in a strategy game.
You got something wrong. Every city gives you a loyalty negative. Each loyalty point is 2% plus or minus production for the city. This can add up. So there is a negative to building many many cities.
I wish Joe had mentioned the price. Ya, this game has a few issues but for $40 I bet I'll get more playtime out of this than I did Civ 5 or Civ 6.

As for diplomacy. I never use it in 4x games because the AI always seems to have odd ideas of value and it turns into an annoyance more than anything.

On the other hand, this game does something I'v never seen in other 4x games, and that is independent building production. It is so nice to be able to produce a vehicle, infantry, and city improvement at the same time. It lets me keep building my military without feeling like I am going to get behind in city growth.
far as i know civ isnt even a 4x game, its a "grand strategy" game.

how the feck are you going to enter diplomatic relationships with blood thirsty orks in the first place?

diplomacy is for the limp wristed.
For me Distant Worlds Universe is best 4x
Diplomacy? WH40K is not about diplomacy! Playing WH40k game means it's time to purge xenos filth and chew bubblegum. And I just keep running out of bubble gum.
