Rift has spawned?

What exactly are rifts I cant seem to interact with this rift I found after it opened?

I'm not sure but I think these are just a global loot-spawning system. After a few minutes the rift produces a huge amount of random loot (when the map marker changes from the rift symbol to the treasure symbol).
But this is just my experience. Maybe you can do something with the rift?

Rifts are a very fun addition to the game. You need to just wait around next to the rift for a few minutes and then you will be rewarded some great loot.

There is a bug where occasionally the rift does not spawn in exactly the same place as the yellow sparking energy dot, basically what happens is you get the german server message (thought the game was Canadian) then around 8 to 10 min later the Rift spawns loot at that location. Sometimes it doesn't spawn the loot at the location and it jumps to under the landscape and is unreachable, in those cases you cannot interact with it.
