Server Difference
Hey guys, I'm sorta new in this area but what is the difference between getting a rented server and a private one I have created? Does the rented server show up in the lists with all the official servers and mind doesn't?

The differences are access, cost, latency, performance, adminstration ease and capacity.

From what I have seen, official, private and rented servers will show up in the list, if they have been set up correctly.

Oh I see, thanx for the info! Do you recommend a rented server?

The game is in early Early Access to the performance of servers is questionable at times.

Also, if you intend to run a private server is your dedicated server hardware up to spec and your Internet connection (Upload and Download) fast enough?

It all depends on your resources and skill but if it was me, I would host my own server until the game is improved enough to be stable and reliable. It would make admin of the server a little more easy, etc.

I see what you mean, where would I be able to see the specs for running a server well? My current download is around 48Mbps and upload is around 18mbps.

Do not have and have not seen real-world requirements for running the dedicated server.

You are not running the demanding game client in dedicated server mode but CPU and RAM requirment could still be high. If I was in your situation I would check this forum or shoot a quick e-mail to the developers who seem a friendly lot.

Wondered if this link had details but they do not mention the hardware used in detail.

Maybe someone else can offer hands-on advise. :)

I rented one server on g-portal.com, 20 slots for 16 EUR for 30 days. Server setup is so incredible easy. They take care of everything (updates, etc.) So the server can run 24/7 without me having my rig running. I think this is a great advantage. The server is situated in Frankfurt Germany, so very good for most of the people I would play with. Having a server at home just is too much stress (for example you have to do the updates yourself, have very fast internet).

$0.53 per slot per month (20 slots) or about $11. Not sure how good they are.

That's good to hear mrorange! Would love to try it out, it does seem quite cheap, I mean I only want to rent one server, if I were to try it out.
