How to split an army?
Have the last of the "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ power maniac in Aileach" quest. Told him I'll take the 50k and see about leaving the Emerald Isle. However, to get to the feast at the farm, I need a party of 25 max and I have an army of 120-odd. How would one split the army? I have a village I am the lord of (no mead hall yet).

Quarters. Or a hideout.
Quarters can be placed anywhere on the map. I think it's accessed through the "camp" menu, but it's been a while.

^^^Yup.

"Quarters" has its own button, I believe, and you can have as many as two field camps going at any one time.

OP, if you are about to take on this quest for the first time, save your game. It is brutally linear in that you are forced to do something very specific (without any clues or prompts) in order to advance the storyline.

I haven't done it in a long time, so hopefully it works differently nowadays? Once upon a time, the player had to go to a specific (and very tiny) place in the wall in order to "escape"...a heated situation.

There are quite a few threads in here about this particular quest.

You should put that in spoilers. Left of "post comment", shows some of the stuff you can do

Actually, I tried to craft my comment in such a way that it doesn't spoil anything at all.

Rather, it gives critical information about a frustratingly linear quest in an otherwise, wide open world.

No doubt the developers would consider my comment as "ruining their fun", but players deserve to know that they are about to be messed with.

If it makes you feel better, I'll redact my non-spoiler.

Well, yea. But "that part is especially surprising/hard" is a bit of a spoiler. Not a big one, but a spoiler.

Thanks for the iput guys :D
I was able to finish it without spoilers, since I did it before reading this :D
Another question: I am holind a village in Mide and the king decided to declare war on Wessex. Yet no one is taking the ships across the irish sea to get any action. Is it basically going to be nothing going on forever? The AI can be frustrating this way

There will usually at least be some lone lords raiding. They will also follow you across the see, if you are marshal.
But yea, it's rare that any faction captures significant territory on another isle.

Sigh. And Wessex is getting too big. Already conquered Cornwall and that wee yellow one above Cardiff
