Bow for Horse
Hello

Is there a way to get a bow or crossbow I can use on my horse?
And how can I improve my weapons or armoury?

Thanks for any help.

Without cheating there is no way to get a bow or crossbow that can be used on horseback. Use javelins. There are stacks of 14 javelins in the game. A shield and 42 javelins from horseback are as dangerous to the enemies you will find in Viking Conquest as a war bow in Native.

You can also play as a dragoon. Shoot, mount, ride, dismount, repeat.

As for improving your gear, go to a city, find the weapon/armor smith on the actual city scene, and speak to them. You will get interesting options that you would not get from the menus. You will be able to get custom gear, improve most gear, etc. Not all options are available on all smiths, some require master level smiths - talk to people for that information.

Also if you upgrade your hiden fort/base thing the Weapon/Armor guys in there will do some updates on equipment for you and even something special if your renown is high enough. Which reminds me I just hit that level so need to go check it out.

Yes. 12 by default, 14 in a large stack. One can argue that it is better to have them improved to balanced, and reload from the chest more often. I prefer the extra ammo.

In case it was not clear: You cannot get a stack of 14 balanced horseman javelins. 'Large' and 'balanced' are mutually exclusive.

I have to say I think I found a way to get a bow and javelins early on at the cost of 10 peningas. I know it works in story mode in Doccinga, look for the archery trainer and get him to train you for 10 peningas. Seems that as long as you keep the ranged weapons in your characters weapons tabs you don't lose them(kept javelins in inventory and they were taken) and the longbow given doesn't have any information saying that it can't be used on horseback.

There is a script that is supposed to collect the longbow, arrows and javelin no matter how you exit the village, including if you save without exiting. I am frankly curious as to how you managed to get them out.

I know of a way - sell the longbow to the village elder without exiting the village scene, i.e. by talking to him face to face, then leave the village, and buy the longbow without entering the village scene, i.e. from the village menu.

The longbow can indeed be used for horseback archery, but it is clear to me that it was not intended to be kept, so I said "Not without cheating". It is not very good on foot, as it has low damage and no Power Draw requirements, thus cannot get the multipliers of a strong featured bow.

So it is a bug o.0 Kinda surprised it happened, though since I went to the trouble of getting to practice with the trainer for the first time I didn't know about getting those weapons. Well guess I'll switch up my weaponry a bit and yeah it's not the best of the bows, do hardly any damage with it sadly.
