I do seem to recall givng it to Morrigan and I am happy share the horror of that experience with you. You can put the naked body paint on a female...except it looks like she donned a gorrilla suit. She takes a man's skin and chest hair along with the paint...noooo....so horrible...my eyes!
My character was a male, so the hairy chest didn't surprise me at all. When I gave it to a female, it most certainly did.
A female player character would presumably look the same as a female npc? My guess is that the development team made the naked body paint male by default to keep Calradia from looking like Ibitha and getting them some sort of XXX rating?
Your female character just needs to find the right lord up in Alba (Scotland-ish). When you meet him, you'll get the dialogue option to ask him about his experience with the Picts...I think that's the guy? If you meet the requirements (whatever they are?), he can tell you a story which ends with an offer to let you have some for yourself. It becomes an equippable armour choice and takes up an inventory slot.
I'm not sure if there is any benefit to wearing it, even though the whole point is for it to increase renown and offer magical protection to the wearer (which could translate into improved morale?). I'm not aware of there being any benefits though...beyond looking cool, of course.
Tested it on another female character and male one and result was same, male got it as soon as he had few approval but female didnt even have the option to ask for it.
Pictish Paint does have benefits also, it boosts your power strike, power throw and athletics atleast but cripples your defence since it only had something like 8 torso and 2 leg defence.
*After testing it out again it seems to give 2 powerstrike, 2 power throw , 2 power draw and 2 athletics so it's quite damn good if you can avoid getting pelted by javelins.
Quite nice early on since all you need to do for it is like one quest to the Alban king,
and as for the XXX rating the female character HAS basic underwear as default so it
wouldn't have really done anything since the paint would just be applied to the arms
and visible body.
PS* there IS an really outdated mod that adds one female variant but its paint isn't really pictish rather looks like celtic scribbles, also it just adds it to cheat menu.
