[SOLVED] HELP!!! My Warband won't launch
I've been having an issue with my new copy of Mount and Blade Warband. I just bought it off steam and it worked fine. There were some initial graphical issues due to my newly installed GTX 970 Graphics Card, but I was able to solve pretty easily. The issue I'm having now is that whenever I try and launch it brings up the launcher, I select play and it loads up the 'Taleworlds Entertainment' intro, without any sound, and then once that has finished it just crashes and the game does not launch.

I've checked literally every forum so far, I done what they've said from deleting 'rgl_config.txt' to updating and checking my Directx but nothing works. I went into the event viewer with Windows and found this long error messages:

Faulting application name: mb_warband.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x55e9a89a
Faulting module name: mb_warband.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x55e9a89a

Unfortunately, I'm really not a master with anything too technical so this is really baffling to me. The best I can guess is that it's an issue with the path that the game is using to launch, but how I would go about fixing it is beyond me.

Anyway if you can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Complete uninstall reinstall helps many times. You could check your files for stability first in the properties section run a cache scan and try first.

I'm reinstalling again now, but I've already tried it a couple of time and there was still no change. I've tried verifying the game cache also but it didn't do anything either. Thanks for the help though.

well, atleast you made some effort too tell us what the problem is,though yours is not always simple
google helps..

so,in your case we start with ccleaner and malware bytes (both free, but use a reliable download,or that will become part of thier job to :tgrin:)
next i would firmily blame your new GPU and its installation
i don't really think it would be another cause

Thanks man :) appreciate the help. I've been looking into it for a while now and it's gonna take any absolute age to sort it out. If I find anything and/or fix it then I'll update this.

im having issues trying to play as well, i get to the loding screen and a couple seconds later it just crashes. no mods either, so somewhere down the line either the game updated and its broken on my machine or the latest drivers i have just make it unplayable.. which is annoying asf as this is one of my favs to play. but mount & blade 1 works fine -.-
Zstar Dec 6, 2016 @ 6:05am
I'm having the exact same issue, but my Nvidia GTX 950 was installed back in May. The game has only become unplayable in the past month or so.

I hope someone finds a solution, otherwise i gotta wait till bannerlord

Try reinstalling DirectX 9, IIRC regular mount and blade (not warband) uses only DirectX7.

A quick look is to try launching Warband with DirectX7 instead of 9.

Alright, just an update. My fix was actually incredibly simple.

All I had to do was uninstall, delete all the remaining entries from the registry which were associated with Warband (I recommended getting help from a professional or someone who has any idea what they're doing to do this) and then do some work within the newly installed configuration. The best way I found to make it work was to put it into windowed. To be honest this may have been the route of the issue the entire time and I was just being an idiot and overcomplicating things.

Regardless, I hope this help. Thanks for everyone's replies, they helped to siphon out the problem.

Hey man! thanks for taking the time to write up how you got it to work!

I tried uninstalling and then deleting all files from my computer, but not through the registry. I know this would leave a few bits behind, but I didnt want to give myself a headache.

Tried window mode after i couldnt get it to work still, and it works perfectly normal.

I think it really is just the windowmode. Maybe a resolution issue taleworlds and steam are struggling with?

I wouldn't be surprised. They don't release many updates anymore so I think whatever happens now has to be fan made. It's irritating to play it in windowed sometimes, but you can set the resolution of the window to bascially fullscreen size so it's workable. Glad I could help btw :)

I know this is solved but I had the same problem (the logo started and then the game crashed for no apparent reason) and tried the DirectX stuff, reinstalling the game and all that. Nothing worked. Then I realized I had my monitor shared with my TV via an HDMI cable. I unplugged that PoS and voila, Warband worked perfectly again.
