Best Productive Enterprises for each town?
I think the question is pretty clear really. What is the most profitable enterprise for each town? I checked a wiki and a few forums, but it seemed like old information and never seemed to actuallly have an answer.

Dye tends to be cheap in Bariyye, Ahmerrad, and nearby villages. Sells for good prices in some other nearby towns. Also makes dyeworks built in those two towns slightly more profitable than most other towns but not nearly as good as Rivacheg or Wercheg. Yeah, Wercheg also tends to have better than average profit from dyeworks but Rivacheg is still the most profitable.

Grain is cheap around Dhirim and a brewery built there may do slightly better than average.

Oil presses are fairly often the best to build in other towns because they have good return on investment and good income. The cost to build them is less than half as much as a dyeworks. So while a dyeworks may give the best income, around 500-550 in an average town, and the oil press might provide an income of around 350-400 you can get a much better return on investment with the oil press and build twice as many with the same investment.

For some places an iron works is a better choice than an oil press. So, check the profits for that as well.

Rarely a tannery will do well when everything else is unprofitable. A pretty steep investment for mediocre profits but might be the best option in some political situations. Most of the time they are a poor investment.

If you are short on funds breweries tend to do alright with little investment almost everywhere. A brewery is a decent choice for towns that you are not sure if you will maintain access to during war.

A mill / bakery occasionaly will do okay but often prices will change with a proserity change and your thin profit margin will disappear. A brewery is usually a much better choice.

Of course each town is different and the local economy can vary in each play through to some extent so you will have to check for yourself.
Alright, thanks, ended up running around to each city, weirdly this time its oil presses, silk, and leather, each makes 300-500 a week, rivacheg 1200, some of them might have been more efficient to go for a slightly lower payout but far cheaper building, but ive got a big pile of money from tournaments, prisoner busting, and bandit hunts, so i just went with biggest payout per week instead of highest payout relative to cost of building, trying to buy a place in every city before i pick a side. Semi unrelated, but is Rivacheg just constantly surrounded in bandits or is there something i can do about that? every time i go up there im attacked by swarms of 10 or more sea raider groups each with like 50+ members, its rather silly early game.

Rivacheg is always surrounded by sea raiders and bandits. But, that is a good thing. That is the best area for grinding on sea raiders for renown, starting gear, loot, prisoners, and profit in general. Sea raiders can be a challenge early on but with the right troops and tactics they can be dealt with.

If you keep your own party on the small side you will get better renown and be able to catch the raiders and bandit groups easier but it can be risky if you are still learning how things work or get ambushed by several groups at once. Design your party for speed and use it to your advantage to avoid taking on more than you can handle. If you really want them to go away you can find and raid the lair but that will just make it move to another location nearby and more raiders will spawn in that area.

The area between Rivacehg and Wercheg tends to get the most sea raiders. Just to the south between Curaw and Khudan there are lots of bandits. If you have a few points in prisoner management and some troops with blunt weapons it can be very profitable to make trips between these four cities searching for ransom brokers.

I figured they were valuable to me as corpses and loot, but dont they negatively impact the town? killing all the farmers and caravans? Does that hurt my businesses or ruin the town when i take it over? It ceretainly keeps smaller enemy forces away, multiple mobs of 70ish sea raiders running around in a swarm supporting each other in combat gets unpleasant quickly. Ive kept with an approximately 70 man group of me, 8 or so companions, 20 huscarls, 20 vaegir and 20 rhodok missile units, its handled everything except the 800 man invasion of Sargoth i had to deal with alone the day after i took it (bad call on my part.)

They do hurt the prosperity of the town and villages but that only matters if you happen to personally own any fiefs right there. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Ah, okay, i thought it might work out bigger than that, like its being so messed up harmed the trade routes in general, those bandits wiping out caravans which would have eventually brought things my way or something. Ill leave it to fester then and just head up that way when i need to train new soldiers.
Caravans are going to get attacked by bandits or enemy lords. But the supply of bandits is endless and lords will come back even when defeated. Fight those battles when you feel like it but you probably will often have better things to do. Other lords will also help take care of these problems and they often really don't have anything better to do.

Prosperity will vary over time. As far as productive enterprises go, there are actually times when lower prosperity can make some enterprises more profitable because the price of the goods you create may increase more than the price of the raw materials.

I am not quite sure I agree with most of you guys. In my experience the dyeworks has ever been the best and delivered most. In one playthrough I had dyeworks in 7 cities in 3 different kingdoms. And the 5 of them turned in 500+ every time, almost without exception. And I just let them do what they do best on their own. I only interfered with one of them once because I needed the produce for a Procure Gift quest, which of course prevented it form turning in any profit that week.

Could just be that I have been lucky of course. I do agree that keeping track of the market trends in Kalradia is a good idea. But I played at a rather high difficulty rate, if that matters, and their high profit just kept coming in for several in-game months.
HIghest income but not always the best return on investment. Those are two different things. Eventually a dyeworks in every town could provide the highest potential income but the time spent getting that many high initial investments is probably not worth it until the end game. In the mid game just choosing the best return on investment for each town on the map will save you a lot of time. For example, 10000 denars to get 500 is not as good as 2 x 4500 to get 2 x 400. Once you have a good return in each town you can start upgrading more of them into dyeworks if you like. When you close up shop you get some of your intial investment back and then you can build a dyeworks instead. If you go straight to dyeworks you will have high income in a few towns and a bunch more empty and be making less total income. Also with higher risk since a war can close off access to a large portion of profits when it is tied up in just a few towns.

So Curaw and Reyvadin are known, the rest just go with whatever seems best? Oddly im only short of money after i swear vassalage to someone, until then im just ping ponging between tournaments and raider hunting, and about 3-4 tournaments betting on myself and a raider group gets me nearly enough for dyeworks, once i join a faction i keep getting ordered to sack cities for other people while my village gets overrun, so im thinking i should wait to join a faction until after i own businesses in every town, only downside is that pisses off every king, they keep sending me offers to swear vassalage.

I Pretty much do the same.. but I tend to buy atleast 2-3 productive enterprises before I join a faction on the month by month payment if it pops up, atleast that way after the month or 3 are up I can just not renknew the contract with the faction / lord and go about farming tournys and bandits / raiders for the gold and loot :) .,,

Once I have bought atleast 5-6 enterprises is normaly when I will decide to join a faction or help some NPC take back thier throne

In regards to what bussines I buy. It all depends on what enterprise is making the most $$$ in the town in the game world, since from game to game, the enterprises profits tend to differ a bit, One game can have the dyeworks as + $1000 and the next it can be a freaking -$240 lol

On a side note, I kinda feel like playing again tonight after reading this thread now since it's been a few months since I loaded it up hehe

There are plenty of old threads out there that give viable suggestions. However, I'll teach you how to find out, for yourself! :)

Go to a Town. In your Notes tab, look up the villages that are attached to that town. Go to each of those villages and talk to one of the peasants. Ask them what the village produces. Write it down. Then, go to the town, itself, go to the merchant screen and see what is for sale. Let's say the villages produce a lot of iron. Are there "end products" like "Tools" there, or just raw materials, like iron? If you see a lot of iron, but few tools, you know that building an Ironworks would probably be pretty profitable.

Next, check with the Guildmaster. Ask them about trade, caravans and the productivity of the region. Note that villages that are often raided will not be very productive, by the way. Caravans are great, but if you are depending upon low caravans to keep your end-products at high value or many caravans, to supply you with raw materials, they become especially important.

Ask the guildmaster their opinion by checking out what they think your profits will be from various enterprises. Pay attention to product costs, village productivity, caravan frequency and have a good idea of how secure this town and its villages are before making a decision.

This section in the wiki has good information: http://mountandblade.wikia.com/wiki/Productive_Enterprise

Lastly: Just build Velvet Weavery and Dyeworks, everywhere, except Curaw, which should get an Ironworks. :) Seriously - I have built Velvet Weaveries all over the place, except where the Guildmaster tells me they're very unprofitable, and I haven't seen any effects from "over-saturation" of the market. That's likely due to warfare and the fact that caravans make tasty targets. In a situation where there was no war, at all, for a long time, the "over-saturation" effect might actually happen. But, in hundreds of hours of play, I haven't noticed it at all. (I sometimes build other Enterprises, just for variety's sake or where one good, like leather, looks extremely profitable.)

PS - Never build a bakery or a brewery as they're a waste of money.

honestly, theres a simple answer to the question:

velvet weaveries are better, everywhere(unless you find a place where an ironwork or wine press brings more cash)

because in mount and blade you don t care about investement return rate or anything, the only thing that counts is how much you get at the end of the week

period
