FAS is set in a semi-fictionalised version of eastern-Europe during the 17th century.
Warband uses the up-to-date Warband engine.
FAS uses a modified version of the original Mount and Blade engine, and is subsequently about as stable as a horse standing on a wooden stool.
Warband is largely free-roam, centred around the player.
FAS is more story-driven, and the player has a lot less freedom in what they can achieve.
Warband's better, if only because it doesn't crash every half-hour.
Warband
- Has a sandbox mode only, no main storyline or linear quests. Quests are only small ones given by lords, villages or town mayors.
- Has simple unit recruiting and upgrading. Get your peasants, level them up, hit upgrade. Better gear, stats and men.
Fire and Sword
- Each faction has a main storyline and quests that are quite large.
- Unit recruitment is different; you get your basic peasants from villages still but they only upgrade 1 or 2 tiers into your extremely basic militia. To get better soldiers you need to hire mercenaries in taverns. To upgrade their gear you actually need to find mercenary camps and pay money for better equipment, it isn't automatic.
Glad to help, also another part of Warband is the insane mod support. I HIGHLY recommend as soon as you buy it, download the DIPLOMACY mod. It adds over 30 new features to the vanilla and is just a general update for it. There are heaps of other mods too that overhaul the game. Romae Bellum changes it to a Roman setting, Gekokujo changes it to Feudal Japan, and the Floris Mod changes the game in such a huge way (graphics, units, content) that it may aswell be Warband 2. Definitely install Diplomacy, then look at other mods. Have fun :)
Are these available on workshop?
To a degree, but it may be easier to get them from the TaleWorlds forum or just googling them. Check them all out and do what you think is easier.
