You are more or less in charge of making the story though, which is pretty much the beauty of it. You can choose to swear your loyalty to a faction or you could stay a mercenary and largely independent.
However you can eventually start your own Kingdom and fight to unify Calradia under your rule! This is the final goal it seems.
So you know the ends, but the means are up to you! To say there's no story seems absurd, it's just that there isn't necessarily a linear storyline.
I'd say go with native for sure, wait on Viking.
