Capture Dun Taruo?
Whats the best way to do it?
I have problem gathering an army for that. Dunno if its bug or - relations but i cant recruit anybody in villages in england. I can recruit in pagan villages in denmark and norway.
However only 1 boat for 27 men. Dun Taruo garrison is about 220. Tried to take it alone but only managed to kill about 60.

Any tips would be welcome

Travel to big cities and recruit mercenaries. If you do not have enough money try winning some competitions and make sure you bet on yourself.

Hiring mercs doesn't help all that much because after you do it, you still have to defend the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing from every lord in Alban, and the lords tend to have ridiculous armies padded with mid-high tier units. I swear the devs of VC specifically made some of the story quests to be insanely difficult just to add some artificial length ot the story.

Well if you were looking for a piss easy game play call of duty. This game is not meant to spoon feed or hold your hands. Grow some balls and with that a army. Learn how to use stragegies and siege everything you come near. Ive not lost a siege yet nor lost defending one.

Nobody said it was supposed to be easy, but there's a difference between challenging and impossibly hard.

An onslaught of 900+ Albans showing up every week to ruin you depletes your forces fast, and the fact that the AI straight up refuses to help defend any of your holdings at any given time makes it so much worse.

Oh, OP, if you think this part of the quest is bad - just wait until you get to the end.

Seriously just wait, you're gonna have a lot of !FUN!

It is not hard at all if you know how to play the game. Also you can have allys help if you know how to.

Tip 1: Recruit in Danmark and other places across the sea, then use the "Travel to another port" option from one of their ports. This will transport all of your men, but be prepared to pay a few thousands for it.

Tip 2: Recruit outlaws. If you frequently leave all the loot to your men after a victorious battle, outlaws will want to join you. Find them and speak to them, if they disagree, or want money, just press leave, and try again. You should have the "leave" option as long as you are more powerfull than them and they would rather run away from you than fight you.

Tip 3 (Unsure): Use another lord to capture it. I had some very good relations with Jarl Bjorn Ragnarsson, and when I "suggested a course of action" to him (told him to capture Dun Taruo), he was happy to do it.
!!! HOWEVER... when he captured it (with my help), the kingdom decided to give him the fortress. I am not sure whether this will make the storyline continue properly, cause after all, I wasn't the one to capture it. I am currently waiting for the 30 days to go by, so I will notify you if it does or doesn't.

Good luck

Thanks.

I asked some jarls for help. About 800 men and it was easy. Even got Dun Taruo for myself.
Now need to wait 30 days.

Holding it is the hard part. Try to convince someone to hang around, because you'll probably be receiving 900+ soldiers pretty soon.

The AI not helping for sieges is a native warband problem. I remember i used to have to trick lords into the fight by approaching the city at night. That way they cann't see as far and won't run from the superior numbers before you hit the city.

On another note haven't played vc yet but do they not make highend troops available? In warband you can just bide your time till you can train some better dudes. So i would assume 100 plus huscarls could really smack some people down.

You can't easily train high-end troops any more because they boosted everything's level (even tier 2 troops are level 18 now) so you need to do a lot of it through combat.

Hiring mercenaries is the only way to go tbh, i have an army of 100 finn archers and 250 svear warriors. And i can easily take an army with 800+ people and only lose 10-50 men. And they are not that expensive tbh

Update: I waited the 30 days, and the campaign progressed normally. I got the next mission. So, good luck in using these lazy ass lords to do your job :D

I got my army mostly made of outlaws, mostly norwegian vikingr (or whatever their name is). They can really kick some ass, but do cost a lot though.
