this "bug" is associated with over lvling, past lvl 60+
What "cheats" are you using? That may shed light on the issue. Quest bandits are generated partially as "level dependent" in order to give you some sort of challenge. Once you get into extreme ranges, the game is going to say to itself "Golly... I don't have any more high-level units to choose from in order to provide a challenging encounter, so I'll just make a BUNCH of them!" :)
:)
Something like this happened to me in Warsword Conquest. (No level cheats, definitely a glitch/bug/fun-bug.)
I met a Farmer and agreed to free his village from "Bandits." When I showed up, there were 60 Trolls.... I guess they were wearing "bandit" t-shirts or something and he got confused.
"Stupid Farmer! You're drunk. Those aren't "Bandits.""
Entire army wiped out, me unconscious... Trolls happy.
Do a search for "character edit guide" for M&B. There's a gamefaq or some such guide out there that will tell you what to edit. Do it at your own risk, though.
export character. Go to documents and go to warband folder. find your chars name and edit it via notepad.
You can also just copy/paste from 'another character' if you don't want to edit everything manually. To 'save' face, just copy the last two lines. You'll still need to redo age I believe.

If you're going to cheat, at least know the 'limits' that the game 'sees', i.e. the 'soft cap' for level is 61. The 'hard cap' for attributes is not 30 but it is 10 for skills (you can get another +4 if it's your personal skill). Wanna see how much HP you can give your character (need to edit another file, not your character's exported text file)?
Or really, enable cheats and just press a key to kill/KO an enemy. But using cheats in whatever way, method or form... will get addicting and soon you can't do anything without thinking/using a cheat.
